  • Injured my finger in the chicken run...

    Hi
Was poo picking this morning, raking through the aubiose (like shavings - and with gloves on, I hasten to say) when caught my hand on a rise in the ground and as my fingers were straight and I was using considerable force, the pain in my middle finger was enough to bring tears to my eyes.
When I took off said gloves to inspect the damage, found that my finger, the middle one, is completely bent over at the top joint and I can't straighten it out.
It is now very sore and stiff and noticed that for some strange reason, that when I touch anything with that finger it feels as if the object has a dent in it! It was my thermos at first, and just thought, blast I must have dropped it but then it was a china mug and I know you can't get dents in them.

Is it tendon damage? and if so will it right itself?

Can put up with the soreness and stiffness but it's a flaming nuisance not being able to use it properly.

Ouch , that sounds very nasty, poor you! I'd def get to the docs/A&E? (why do these things always happen when the surgery is shut for the w/e?) asap if I were you, sounds as though you need some prof help with this one. Will await a post from someone with some medical knowledge - not me, sadly. Look after yourself and take care (((hugs))).
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.

        Hi
Sharonr, yes have had the tetanus, Doctor threw hands up in horror when she found I hadn't had it, had trodden on some glass that time.
Pipscariad, thanks for good wishes, yes, its always at the wrong time, don't think I can have broken it though, wouldn't that be very painful?
Anyway some nice medical grape may be able to advise.
        best wishes
        Sue

sounds like a torn tendon....you need to put a splinter on and try to see a doctor asap, just to see the damage, I did a similar thing 2 years ago and I had to have an op as I had torn tendon away..........

Sounds painful, it does sound like ligament or tendon tear. Best to see a gp as you may need to splint with the next door finger. You have to be careful or you will get tendonitis or cause osteo problems depending on the reason if nothing is done.

Get it checked! The 'feeling dents that aren't there' may indicate nerve damage, and at best if it is 'left to get better on its own' you may well end up with a permanently-out-of-shape finger, which believe me, gets to be a nuisance sooner or later! (It always seems to be MIDDLE fingers!)

Do as you're told and go to A&E. I know you might have to sit and wait for hours but if it's dislocated, or tendon damage then the long term effects of not doing anything could be serious!

Go on, do it NOW else you'll have me coming over there and taking you myself ('cept I haven't got enough petrol to do that and I'm going away in a bit too). Go on. Are you listening?

Sounds like dislocation to me, as Hilary says, feeling things that aren't there is almost certainly nerve damage, and if the finger heals with the nerve trapped or in the wrong place, it will never be right. I had to have 2 ops on my middle finger to repair tendon damage in the past, best to get it sorted first time eh?
As the others say - GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!!
