We in Manchester came from gooseberry bushes too!

my mother always told us we came from Gods pocket.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Apparently the pixies left me in the cradle! Explains an awful lot.

2 summers ago I had a friend over from the UK, along with his son. Son was 31. We were in the front garden playing a bit of cricket (much to the locals amusement) when the 31 year old picked an apple from one of my trees and ate it. Nothing unusual there, until he said to me "Do you know, thats the first time I have ever picked an apple from a tree."
I was gobsmacked, I thought scrumping was a rite of passage.

Yeah, and it certainly wasn't a bacon tree...... (someone must know the joke)
