Bush fires here too. The locals burn the brush every year to encourage new growth, but seem to have forgotten (or perhaps not) that there is a large camp in the middle of it. Was completely surrounded at one stage this afternoon by flames, but seem to have escaped the worst of it now. I smell like a fireman and look like one too, covered in black soot from trying to beat the flames back from the police camp I have outside the main gate.
Called the airport as I know they have a fire engine and they replied that clearly their fire engine is for their use only, couldnt possibly send it down to me, just in case they needed it.
I asked if there was a plane due in this afternoon (knowing there isnt) and was dutifully told "nothing scheduled, but its an airport, we never know."
The sky is dark around me currently as the fire is moving towards the small village about 5km's behind my western wall, so I hope they all survive ok.
Will try and attach a pic if I can, it was quite exciting for a bit.

Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.
