well i hope you all have a great SNOW DAY - "well the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful, simply no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!"

the heavy snow is very unusual for us. We can't really prepare for an event that only happens once every 20 years, for a day or two.

It would be ridiculous to invest in snowploughs etc ~ just as it would be daft to get air-conditioning for the odd heatwave we get every other decade or so.

Individuals should be sensible ... I have seen on the news silly girls out with high heels and no coats, silly boys too. Silly drivers who have been told not to drive, but still do.

Im with you TS. We cant afford the investment for weather that occurs so rarely. Dont get me started about silly girls in fashion boots. Had to re-equip some of number 1 sons girlies with socks and boots yesterday

I'm not sure I totally agree with T.S and FionaH. I am here in Sudan and even I knew that there was going to be a large dusting of snow today. Whilst I do agree that investing in snow ploughs etc for a rare event isnt sensible, having looked at the news on TV this morning, I cant help but think that more could have been done to keep the main arteries of the country open.
Continuing your grumble though TS, It never ceases to amaze me when I see blizzard conditions and short skirts and heels. Not saying its wrong, but it never ceases to amaze me.

We had that here in Essex and London as well, it snowed on Sunday night and all day Monday! Our bigger side roads are just about clear today but the small roads like the one where I live are still like an ice rink, cars have been dancing all over the roads, ballet on ice

We have been watching the news of the snow in the UK and it does make us smile!

As you can imagine here in the Falklands we get some very heavy snow every winter but i have never been told that work or school has been closed, as much as i would love to have an impromptu couple of days off . We still drive, only a select few roads are gritted and Stanley is built on a steep hill.

10 years ago we didnt have any roads gritted and we all used snow chains on our vehicles but like i say we have never been stopped from going to work/school

Then as the snow melts and the wind chill kicks in it always becomes a big sheet of lethal ice, its not nice, i personally hate it....but my kids love it. Before i could drive (many years ago) i used to take little ones to school on their sledge!

Mind saying that down here most of use have 4x4's, and the speed limit in town is just 25 miles per hour.

One year i was with my Dad in his little suzuki jeep and it completely lost traction on the top of a hill in the ice, we ended up sliding down a steep road and finished balancing on a wall - bit like a see saw - we were OK though!

Pic of Stanley in the snow, and it had only been falling for a couple of hours
