When people take puppies from us, we're always amused at the way they won't use the word 'bitch'. When I ask why they decided on a bitch pup, they look all sheepish as if I'd swore at them. Different interpretatione of the language, I suppose.
Reminds me of a bit near the end of the Narnia stories (The Last Battle) where one of the talking dogs gets indignant about a human referring to himself as "but like a dog" meaning, no-one special, and the other talking dog says something about "don't worry about it, after all, we call our puppies 'boys' if they misbehave"
"Oh yes, or 'girls'."
"There is no need for that sort of language!"
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
Thought I'd add my post to this, as I've got an ambigious name and haven't yet plucked up the courage to put a real pic of myself as my avatar! (I've also got a name which can be applied to either male or female - Sheridan - I've got used to people saying, "Oh, I thought you were going to be a man!" )
I'm a girlie - and like others, had some folk down as the wrong gender
