  • What a week!!!

What a week i have just had.....

Last tuesday night we noticed that our cat lexi wasn't breathing properly. Has we had snow that day, and all the kids had been playing out. We thought that maybe a kid had thrown a snowwball at him.

So on wednesday when when we got up he seemed to be a little better and so we said that we would keep an eye on him.

But by wednesday night he was a lot worse...he couldn't breath at all. So by this time it was 10pm and we had to look on the yell.com to find a emergengy vet in our area.

We rang them and described what was wrong with and the vet thought he had got Pneumonia and to bring him straight away.

We got to the vet at 11.15pm and just for that it was a £70 call out and when we got there the vet examined him and said that it wasn't pneumonia at all he had actually got fluid on his lungs.

She then said to us that he wasn't too good and we could treat him for it or she could put him to sleep.

So we decided to safe him. he's was worth it.

They gave him an injection to try and get some of the fluid from his lungs.

They had to keep him over night too treat him and she also took our mobile number incase anything happened to him through the night.

so all night we didn't sleep waiting for a phone call from the vet.

When we spoke to her the next day she told us that it was touch and go all night because he was in such a bad state.

He had to stay at the vets til yesterday...hes come home now a little better, his breathing isn't has bad but he lost loads of weight couldn't believe it when we took him out of the cat box and saw him.

He was orignally got for me but he ignores me and always goes to my OH. but since he's come home he's ignoring other half and won't leave me alone.

So we have got a vet bill now of £340 and has we both don't work we are struggling to pay fo it.
we were told about the blue cross so we have rang them up and they have been fantastic with us.

Just glad he's on the mend now.

        Glad he's improving!

Did the vet say what the problem was causing the fluid on the lungs??( It's usually a heart or kidney failure in humans )

Fluid on the lungs IS pneumonia, isn't it? Inflammation of the lung tissue causes fluid to accumulate and the lungs fill up. Inflammation can be caused by foreign body, or bacterial/viral infection.

So glad to hear he's survived. My cat died of this, many years ago, when I was a kid. I had told my family that he 'wasn't right' for days before and they poo pooed it. When he was finally taken to the vet, it was too late and he died in the night.

Everything crossed that he makes a full recovery, OP. Try to keep him in a dust-free environment and with warm, dry air. Poor little chap.

Glad to hear he's on the mend. And he hadn't been hit by a snowball!

We have insurance for ours and although it seems expensive it has more than paid for itself over the years when 2 cats would have had combined bills of £2000. Which we couldn't have paid at all.

You can get Pulmonary Oedema ( fluid on the lungs ) with pneumonia, but it's often associated with heart or kidney failure.

Poor little thing whatever caused it!

thank you for all of your kind replys

the vet said that he got it due to a problem with is heart. but has he his only 4 she says that he his quite young to actually have a problem so he has got to have more tests and have tablets for the rest of his life.

the vet was unsure what had caused it and said it could be possible that he had been hit by a snowball but wasn't sure herself... i just hope it wasn't cos if i find out who did it i don't know what i would do!!!!

Allotmentlady i couldn't possible ask you all to help but thank you for the kind offer.

Got to take him tomorrow for a check up so i will keep you all informed to his recovery
