Who influenced you?

I was heavily influenced as a child by Percy Thrower, thanks to my granddad, then as I got older, Alan Titchmarsh influenced me, along with Carol Klein, both my garden which is an exotic paradise and my allotment are designed by influences of them both. I could watch Carol all day but since AT gave up the gardening programmes, i dont bother anymore.

Now I learn off other lottoie holders and I am also learning from peeps on ere

There was a pretty similar thread to this a few weeks ago, think most of us were influenced by members of the family, in my case my old grandad.

my guru is a lady called Boris, didnt realise she was an influance at the time though, then HFW and the grapes

My dad even tho I was six years old when he died.
I am hoping to visit Carol Klein's garden in the spring, I was going last sept with my sister but we couldnt find out if it was open and as its a fair way we decided to postpone it. Thanks for the reminder.

I have often considered this as my parents have no interest nor my oh unless there/s some thing to pick and eat. I think it was my grandfather who when I was young took me to the allotment site he help set up and gave me a massive cabbage to take home. It was massive to me as I was only small. I also lived on the country and for a while worked on the land before getting the wunderlust and travelling the world. I still came home and the interest was re kindled. I also enjoy the quiet and like to be alone sometimes. I really enjoy the lottie. It makes no odds who you are you will get whitfly and all the other nasties. I really do enjoy it, my idea of heaven.

my dear grandad, when he was alive he used to stay with us over the easter weekend and would 'till' everything over that weekend, didn't matter if it was an early or a late easter. always had good results regardless.

My Mum said to me when I got interested in growing veg that they say you are never more than two generations away from a grower. I believe she's right - my Dad had an allotment and his Grandad was a farmer - it's in the blood I tell ya - there's no hope for you - resistance is futile!

My parents - my father was very keen on GYO and so is my mother. I was brought up on homegrown everything, our own chickens and eggs, and whilst I rebelled for a few years, it does seem that it is in the blood!

my dad when he was a live many moons ago and both my grandads but i still held of untill i was 29 as i thoght it was uncool silly me and then hugh off river cottage gave me the final push , just wish i had started at 20
