Ooooooo I am so so so excited!!!

As most of you know my sis emmigrated to New Zealand last August to be with her man and yesterday it was valentines day in NZ and he proposed, well guess who is sat here crying with tears of joy, i am so happy for them both......

But now my job begins, as they are gonna tie the knot over here, so i am Wedding Planner, Best Bird with the greatest speech to write, I have never ever been a bridesmaid and am so excited for them both!! (and i most diet more to get in a lovely frock lol)

Ooooo its just great news, I just hope their marriage is more successful than mine lol!!! (not hard though) ha ha ha!

Sorry had to share and if you have any ideas for a great day to make it more unusual please let me know!!

I made a speech at my wedding years ago, was fine, although scandalised the oldies as not right for women to do it or some such nonsense.

Can you theme it (in a tasteful way obviously) for something they both enjoy? Or pick a colour and ensure that all the guests wear something in that colour?

Oh and disposible cameras on the tables so everyone can take pics and they are so funny when you get them delevoped.

When my daughter got married, I got assigned the 'making of the cakes' (one traditional and one sponge cake for those who don't like fruit cake). Since her man worked in a racing stable, the sponge cake was iced to look like a race course (chocolate butter icing, covered with green-coloured desicated coconut, then rails made of cocktail sticks, a couple of little plastic horses, etc........
There must be some comparable decor trick?

When my nephew got married his wifes sister organised the wedding and it was great - and she made a suberb speach. She had been through all the family photos and set up a slide show to go with the speach. It was very funny and she got a standing ovation.
The bride made a very good speach too - so I don't think you need to have any hangups about women making speaches.
Go for it and enjoy.

i am loving the slideshow idea, i can see a powerpoint presentation coming up lol!

i am not worried one bit about my speech as i talk anywhere anyway lol!!! and i will know everyone there lol!

i am loving the cake idea, i hate fruit cake and had two banana and one fruit on my ill fated day lol!!! cor i can see a NZ flag and a Union flag on the cakes!!

Well keep any ideas rolling, i want bubbles on the tables and the cameras and may do some scrolls as well!

Cameras on the tables is an excellent idea...one I really wish we'd done.....are there any Kiwi traditions that you could tie in with your plans?
and on the subject of bubbles....our Bridesmaids were little fairies & at one part in the ceremony they danced around us blowing bubbles....it was realy special & made for some beautiful photos also!

well, i love the fairy idea but i so know my sis wont and neither will be youngest or eldest it wont be cool for a 13 year old to dance around blowing bubbles! lol!!!

At my nieces wedding without her knowing her husband had a tshirt printed with a photo of her on when she was little wearing a bright yellow plastic mac and hat there was a story to it that was told during the speeches we were all in fits and she was sooooo embaressed, at my nephew's wedding the best man had got lots of photo's blow up and his speech went on for ages and ages but it was all about the phot's and what my nephew got up to as a boy, it was really good and a lot of work went into it.

If you want a 'pictorial' sponge cake, just bake a cake in a roasting tin. That gives you a nice big rectangle to draw pictures on!
If you measure the volume of a tin, you need a 1 egg victoria sponge mix per pint of capacity (filled to the level you want).

My efforts, like my Mum's tend to be 'clever ideas' done to a basic standard, (as opposed to beautifully classic quality), and most folk can manage something along those lines.

I did both (fruit cake and sponge) for my daughter, we couldn't afford a professional. My sugar roses were not brilliant, but not too bad, and TOTALLY edible (no wires etc) as well as being exactly the colour she wanted.

A compromise might be a professional 'proper wedding cake' and a home made 'sponge cake' decorated in some significant manner.
