  • So excited - free greenhouse and grapevine!

I thought I had been pipped at the post for a greenhouse on Freecycle, but the person never collected it, so it's mine!!

    This is what I'm getting:
    "The greenhouse is 8' 6" X 6' 8" (2600mm X 2000mm) it is 4 years old or
less. Comes with staging and automatic window opener. Whoever wants it
will have to come and dismantle it."

And I got an email from the guy tonight saying:
"By the way - there is a grapevine in the greenhouse - if you want it please feel free to dig it up and take it. Not being 'into' vines I don't know whether they like being moved or not - it's worth a chance if you fancy it, it will only be composted if not."

We are going to dismantle and pick it up on Saturday morning....

I'm not even sure where it will go yet, we may keep it flatpacked until Spring...

    Woo!

That's brilliant OWG - a greenhouse and a grapevine! I've been trying on ebay and loot for a greenhouse but to no avail so far. A house round the corner from me has just been sold and it's got a 10 x 8 greenhouse in the back garden (a bit neglected but it could be salvaged). I'm just hoping the new people aren't interested in gardening and will be relieved when I pop round and ask them if they'd like to sell it - fingers crossed!

Nice one OWG. Greenhouse and a vine . Ever thought about making your own wine? Ive just been given a vine and thats what Im going for. Good luck with the greenhouse.

If you havent got the instructions, Dont forget to photograph it from every angel before you take it down. cos there are loads of bits that look like each other and are slightly diferant. Best of luck rebuilding it.

Well done OWG! I really must have a word with my OH to see if I can get onto the freecycle web. Good tip on taking photos of it before you dismantle it - thats what my OH did when he dismantled and rebuilt mine - very useful too! Have a good time Saturday morning! dexterdog

Never thought of taking pics - good idea! I'll make sure the camera is charged before tomorrow morning!

We're pretty lucky as this will be our second greenhouse and grapevine! We got about 10lbs of grapes this year and are currently fermenting about 5 litres of wine (hopefully ready at Christmas)

To be honest, the Freecycle thing was a total fluke. We'd signed up to it to get rid of unwanted Christmas presents, and decided that we'd keep checking for a little freezer (cos we need another!), the greenhouse thing was a blessing in disguise! We're signed up to both the Preston and Blackpool lists, there's a bit of cross posting, but some useful stuff on there!

Party at yours then over Christmas? free wine....food.....etc? just make sure you print your photos on proper photo paper - we had'nt got any so printed them off on normal paper. Trouble was, when rebuilding it, it was raining - by the time we'd finished we could hardly see the pictures!! It worked well in the end. dexterdog

                      Hi DD

Everything went well on Saturday! We borrowed a friend with a horse box to move the greenhouse...

We took out all the glass in the roof, but left the side panels intact and just tied them up inside the trailer...

We only lost 2 panels, so once we re-assemble, we'll nip and get a pack from B&Q to sort out the lost panels.
We won't be putting it back together until spring, and I'll be using it as a potting shed type area, as I've already got a large greenhouse for tomatoes etc

We also got another grapevine out of it, but its not doing so well, so I'm hoping it perks up in the next few days

                      OWG

This was the greenhouse before we dismantled it...

It's currently still flattened against the side of the garage at the moment though

What a lovely greenhouse! Isn't it good having friends who have horse trailers?! We moved house for my in laws a couple of years ago using the horse box, we've also moved furniture and the like - most recently a free (there's another bargain! though not garden related!) two, two seater leather settees! Lovely! Dexterdog

Hi OWG - just think this time (well a bit earlier) your beautiful greenhouse will be full of tomatoes, cucumbers and all sorts of goodies. Congratulations
