Please let me have nice neighbours!!

Hello just airing my concerns about potential new neighbours. In our cul-de-sac all the houses are ex-council bar the one next to me. It's a nice quiet cul-de sac and whilst the chap who used to live next door to me did absolutely zilch in his garden, he did let me use the bottom for veg growing. Now he's moved out, I've had to find space for my raised beds back in my garden, which I have now done. My concern is, what sort of neighbours am I going to get? I'm not a snob and very much a live and let live type but this morning two girls with pushchairs and a loud mouthed bloke were eyeing it up,shouting and swearing, the toddlers with coke bottles hanging out of their mouths. I'm now dreading it if someone like this moves in. I'm an ex-council tenant myself so certainly have nothing against council tenants as such just pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease let them be nice

Maybe they won't like gardening so you get to keep the extra bit for a while longer.
Hope they are lovely and you are soon dining round each other's houses and babysitting each other's children

Thanks guys just needed to get that off my chest. The problem is that are gardens are so close to each other because their quite long and narrow, which is nice if you get on with the neighbours but hell if you don't! I can see I may have to put up six foot fences if they're not nice but then I probably won't have enough light left in the garden to grow anything!!

Hey, you may get lovely neighbours and you could be swapping veg over the fence by the Summer.

I know all about bad neighbours. Several years ago we moved out of a council house and bought our own, just to get away from the neighbours from hell.

Thankfully, we now have good neighbours though the ones to one side neglet their garden so much I've had to put up the six foot fence to keep their brambles at bay

They might be lovely - hope they are. I'm praying for nice neighbours when we move too. Though it's just occurred to us that with a year old baby, a new one on the way, and my plan to keep chickens, we might actually become the problem neighbours!

I know what you mean pdblacke about the brambles. In order to clear an area for raised beds in ex nextdoor neighbours garden, I had to clear brambles that were 5 foot high and stretched the width of the garden. At least the new neighbours won't have to clear too much!

Well personally speaking Rhona I would be happy with babies and chickens. Babies I've had myself so know what it's like and as to chickens, the poo would come in really handy!!!

Oh yes me too Flummery. They grow up so quick my youngest is a month away from being 18 and then I may well be redundant!!

No chance - they always want something! My youngest is 33, oldest 37! You're always their mum!

Fingers crossed for you. But if they are not nice neighbours, as they are council tenants at least you can put complaints in about them. And if they don`t change their way they can be evicted. Not nice I know but why should you suffer.
The council now have to advertise empty houses and people put in for them. When our old house came up 53 people put in for it. So hopefully they were just looking and won`t get it.
We use to live in a council house and one of our neighbours use to like playing his stereo so loud you couldn`t hear yourself speak. Some of the neighbours complained who lived 2 doors down (we knew it was them as they came around asking if the noise was a problem) and the noise stopped.
