Hopefully you'll all get along fine. I bet the garden is a bit of a mess now? Perhaps you could offer to help clear it and if they're not at all interested in it or have no time then they might let you have some to grow your veggies (you could always give them some). Its exciting isn't it? Shame the council won't tell you who it is. Make the most of the quiet whilst you can........... the summer holidays are six weeks long and if there are children its going to be a bit noisy!!

We were like that in our house.
After the old lady died the house stayed empty for a year until her son could decide what to do with it. A couple moved in and they had a baby. The only problem being I can hear the little boy when he cries in the night. And I thought old houses were built more solid.

I do hope your new neighbours are nice people. Think positive.

When we got the news that we had got ours we went down the Housing Association offices to get the address so we could start changing it over with banks etc. Couldn't resist going up for a little nosy, we were well chuffed when we saw the place....and the man there doing some jobs let me in for a quick looky! Was so pleased when I saw the size of my kitchen!! That was before the 'bidding' way of doing things came in.

Thanks Kirsty, I'm sure they will be just don't understand why council is dragging its heals in getting the place finished. You would think they would want the rent.

Our old housing association house was empty for 4 months before the new people moved in.
They didn`t have to do anything to the house as we had left it how we go it when it was new. We repainted the walls back to the horrid magnolia colour, had to rip out all the carpets and put back all the original plug sockets and light fittings.
If we didn`t they would charge us for the removal and replacement of anything we had left behind. We couldn`t work out why it took them so long to re rent it out.

Our house was empty for a week while the council basically made good any odd jobs/decorating that the previous tenant may have done. They put in new doors on some of the rooms and take out any 'non-council' fittings. Our kitchen is non-assoc, but because the previous peeps did a good job of installing it they didn't rip it out and give us one of theirs. Result! Getting new boiler and heating system in any day now.

Hope you find out soon SR...you can't beat good neighbours!(& you'd probably be arrested for beating the bad ones too!)
Did you ever go into the house before the other chap left?Maybe it was left in a not too good way?
Fingers crossed it will be done soon.
Just another thought...maybe the people that are taking it on have a tenancy agreement in their current home that they need to honour?
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
