  • What made me smile today...

    Two very simple things:

    1. Seeing the hundreds (well not quite, just seemed like it at the time!) of bulbs I planted last Autumn really shooting up now. My ‘Green and White’ patio border filled with crocus, snowdrops, hyacinth and daffs and numerous pots planted with red, orange and purple tulips really coming through. Thanks to the milder weather this week they have really had a spurt of growth. Plan to ‘plunge’ the tulip pots into the front garden just before they open to brighten it up.

    2. Gold finches feeding on my new bird feeder

    What made you smile today?

I hung up the old nestbox, ever hopeful of getting occupants this year.

        Has he - fabulous.

What has made me smile - is that we bought a new stereo last year, and when we moved it into our new chill out room the CD player wouldn't take CDs and the DAB radio wouldn't work - which was more than mildly annoying as I listen to Digital radio or cds all day long and as it is also my new office.

So, we went to good old sainsburys today and bought a dab radio/cd player/ipod dock and the radio tunes in - the ipod works and the cd works - all for about 1/4 of the price we pad for the original flippin system.

So, I can have cd/radio/ipod as well as vinyl out there now. Which is exactly as a chill out room should be.

I spent the afternoon digging out unwanted Hemerocallis from my Parents' front garden, whilst wearing a TEE-SHIRT - Spring must be here - It made me smile!

I spent nearly all day in the garden, got the table and chairs out. Sowed some seeds and planted out some perenials - lots of little jobs. Read the papers, drank tea. Wonderfull.

Wandering around an allotment site (not ours....yet, but watch this space) in beautiful sunshine, chatting to lovely friendly new people and admiring their plots, chickens and meeting the worlds most gianormous turkey cock. And being given a piece of the most delicious homemade flapjack that I've ever tasted. Bliss.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I smiled all day today because the dog breeder we recently got a lhasa apso puppy from for my Mum (Jaco...I did post about him at the time) called us to ask us if we wanted our own little lhasa puppy...FOR FREE. Jaco's brother...he's 6 weeks old and unfortunately has a heart murmur. Instead of selling him she decided she'd rather give him to someone who would love him...and understand his condition. So, voila...she picked us.

So, today we have another addition to our family!! Davey the dog!

Three dogs, three cats and three chickens now! We're doing well!!

Hope you don't mind me posting a pic on your thread - just can't help myself!!!
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

                    What made me smile today...

                    - this lovely thread, thank you chocosmos
                    - the blue tit in the garden seems to be super interested in next doors nest box and I can see all the comings and goings from the kitchen window
                    - the parsnip wine I set pff in the last couple of days has not died a horrible death in its fermentation - it's just the quietest brew ever
                    - the first big fat bumbleybee of the year graced me with its presence at the Hill - and I would not have taken note if Shirlthegirl had not said she'd seen one
                    - i had some flower seeds arrive in the post this morning from a seed swap from a more than generous new grape
                    - tea tonight included a dish posted by a well-loved grape, and it was predictably absolutely delicious
                    - the sun shone, the bulbs are growing, the currant bushes are budding already

                      Thank you Hazel

Last year I had a blue tit nesting in a box I put up in my tree and it was exhausting watching it flying in and out all day long. Never seemed to stop working.

I'm going to have to find a new home for the box this year as neighbours at the back of me have just acquired two cats that love jumping over the fence and sitting under my tree

Don't mind at all and hope Davey the dog gives you loads of pleasure. You are very lucky to have him. I yearn to get another dog. Mine sadly died over a year ago and I still miss him like mad. You can't beat a dogs unconditional love

Puppy picture gave me a smile, thanks.

Also, it looks like being a bright day - we've had so much overcast weather over the past month, a bit of sunshine will brighten us all up - including the plants.
