if your thinking of changing your os wait untill the windows 7 is out later this year it is much better than vista (i have the home pro and the ultimate and the beta version of windows 7) it is much smoother than vista and start/stops much quicker and uses less memory (running it only on 1 gig memory,250 gig hdd ,amd athlon 64 4000+,ati radeon x1300)

I've just heard from SIL, she has downloaded and installed service pack 2 for XP, an anti-virus software and now she can get Office back in. They are a bit like me with a car, know some basics (oil, water, screenwash), but really just want to start up and go, not be bothered with technical stuff. Their computer is 4 years old, but besides taking my advice to add some more memory just after Christmas to speed things up, they are happy with what they've got. I can't see them changing OS. I used to have a dual boot system, but now I use the school laptop at home, it's just windows XP.
My brother has also just bought a 4 gig memory stick, so she's putting all the invoices etc on that, just in case anything drastic did happen.

Like the student who went to the college IT Support with an exchangeable disc problem and was devastated when he was told that the file he needed to access on the disc could not be recovered.
"Don't you have any backup copies of the file?" Support asked him.
"Oh yes." he replied perking up a bit.
          "Where are they?" asked Support.
"On this disc." he replied, holding out the original and totally buggered exchangeable disc.

My DD had a memory stick, which she lost just before Christmas, all her business studies coursework on it, no other copy When OH dropped her off in the school car park in Jan, same place as normal, she saw a battered memory stick. It had obviously been run over, was wet etc. Anyway she bought it home, and her brother straightened out the usb connector. Amazingly, not only was it hers, she could also access her files. It couldn't be written to, but it did save a lot of time as she didn't have to re-write everything again

Copies everywhere, her laptop connects to the home network, reckon we've all got her work in our shared folders now, and she sends it via hotmail so she can get it from there too. Lesson learned methinks. It was a whole terms work, she's doing AS level.
