  • Are you watching Sissinghurst

....with the lovely Sarah Raven (yes, with that coat!) and her hubby Adam Nicholson (grandson of my hero, Vita SW) on the revamping of Sissinghurst?

Lovely programme thus far - here

We used to live in Sissinghurst and went to one of their parties once...the Nicholsons...I remember fireworks and barbecue sauce.

I was only about 7 at the time. My step sister used to work at the Tea rooms there and we used to get cream teas for free. Their milk at the farm was absolutely amazing.

Nice place. I had no idea the relevance of it at the time...we just used to lark about around the grounds.

Adam and Sarah have a real challenge on their hands - I admire Sarah's drive here but fear she will make enemies of 'the establishment'

Adam & Sarah only see the 'here & now', the establishment have to be concerned with 'in perpetuity'....that's a big job!

indeed that is true SBP - I was thinking more in terms of the Chef for starters (erm, not to actually eat you understand ) than the NT in general.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds and how much change does take place. Change for change sake isn't necessarily good - and the NT's mindset that foods that have a link with the 'property' will only be served - well, that makes sense also.

Sarah's idea that a huge field onto the property be overturned and used to provide veg for the restaurant make perfect sense.

                  Anyone watching Sissinghurst?

I love it. The head gardener is quite a character - I half expected her to get a pipe out and start smoking it.

well blimey - apart from rabbit killing and lesbians!!

Poor old Adam and Sarah have an uphill struggly! And I do (still) think that the resident Chef has feet in clay

I think they already have, he turned up at the meetings and changed the salad dressings and also was very happy about the nutmeg. Nevertheless, so have they as they are now more involved with the staff!

The bit I loved so far and shows what a NT can be like, they do not mention that they were both bisexual and had love affairs with the same sex, yet it is a major part of the story due to the books.

Am I the only one disappointed with these programmes? I started watching as I thought it would be about the garden and how it evolved.

Really not interested in the fact that they were bisexual, or watching Sarah and Adam complaining all the time.
