If anybody happens to notice that the Sudan area of Africa appears to be warmer than usual, it may well be a glow of fatherly pride thats heating the atmosphere.
My eldest, my son, had a period in his life where he did things he shouldnt have, took things internally that were no good for him and was generally a bit of a bad lad. Inherently a good kid, but for about 3 years was so far off the rails that there were times I seriously didnt think I would see him become an adult or a father (which he is to be this year).
So the phone call I had with him yesterday, when he told me that his footy team had won their semi final, and were through to the final of a local cup in his area, and will in fact be playing the final at the local Pro footy team stadium (Aldershot Town) was fantastic news for me. To know that my son, as captain of his team will lead his lads out to play in the final of a cup, when perhaps 5 years ago he was lying in a pool of his own bodily fluids in a ditch makes me well up with pride.
I'm proud of all my kids (as all parents are) but wanted to share this particular joyous news with as many people as I could.
Sorry for a huge chunk of self-indulgence, and thanks for letting me spout off.
