  • How did your OH propose?

Just been having a natter on another thread and allotment lady gave me a good idea.

How did your OH propose to you? Where, when and what words did they use?

Drew asked me (sat on a garden bench in my parents garden) what was the worst thing he could ask me? I couldnt think of an answer (thinking he wanted to finish with me) then, what wa the best thing he could ask me? (again, speechless, still thinking about the first question)
Question was "Will you marry me?"

    Answer "Yes!"

That was back in 1980, we married in 1983 and are still enjoying married life!

    What about you?

    PS Yep, Im just nosey!!!!

Madmax and I had been out in his MG Midget for a drive, we were crossing the Cleddau Bridge and he pulled over and got out of the car in the middle of the bridge - he opened my door, knelt down and proposed with me still sat in the car

Of course i nsaid yes quickly, he is a good catch, loaded and had a car lol...it was abeautiful memory and very romantic.....

It was back in 2000, on 21st October, 6 months after we'd met and 5 weeks after we'd started dating.

We'd been out with friends on my birthday for a meal, Lee had told the friends he was going to propose, but I hadnt a clue. All thru the meal we were having a great time, and Lee was trying to get the nerve to ask me, which he didnt. After a lovely meal we came home, our friends came with us, but decided not to stay so left shortly after. We curled up on the couch watching telly with a glass of wine, and a comedy stand up show came on. The comic was going on about not getting married, and if you do then you have to get rid of the bed (cos other women had been in it) and being really funny.

Lee was laughing at it as was I, but what I didnt know was he was trying to summon up his courage to propose, I didnt realise until he slid off the couch onto the floor, then turned to me with a big smile and said, 'Well, will you?'

I of course hadnt a clue, so said, 'Will I what?'

He knelt up on one knee and said 'Will you marry me?'

'Of course' was the reply, and 10 days later we got married (on a Tuesday, which was Samhain/Halloween), exactly 6 months since we'd met at May Day/Beltane. Our wedding guests got 24 hours notice of the wedding (even the best man), and when everyone turned up to the engagement party the following Saturday they then got told it was actually the wedding reception!

Folk at work didnt believe me when I first told them, it wasnt until I bought in the wedding certificate to get my details changed that they really believed me!

It was fun, spontaneous and dead romantic, and 8 years later we are still madly in love and thoroughly enjoying our life together!
            Blessings

Me and Mrs snuffer were courting (what a strange word) since I was 16 and she was 14. Don't recall doing the down on one knee bit but it was somehow just assumed that we would one day wed. This year will see our 29th wedding anniversary. (I think LOL)
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

On holiday in the Caribbean, both with the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' attitude. But one particular night we both got VERY drunk (all-inclusive, free bar) as you do, and he got down on both knees (too drunk to sort out his legs!) and proposed. Probably the only time I've ever been lost for words! We got married a month later. That was eleven years ago, and I still wouldn't swap him lol

Ours was a quiet 'do' - we didn't even tell our families 'till we'd done it .

                  Fun thread!

Hmm, he'd moved into my house and we'd already had a baby together. He turned to me in an ad break on the tv one night and said 'better get married then'. No, it didn't last, why do you ask?

                  Better luck next time, eh?
I was feeling part of the scenery

My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

He hasn't yet!!! (but with wedding booked for July he'd best hurry up)

I'm pretty sure it was me asking him though. Over the course of 10 years he has gone from 'not yet', to 'yes, but not right now', to 'ok when?'
We got together in 1999 and agreed to do the deed this year as a way of celebrating 10 years together.

I asked OH, 29 Feb 1996 in a nightclub... I was just a whippersnapper still at Uni and we'd only been together 5 months - how reckless (my mother was horrified). He said yes and then took me to London for the day a few months later and proposed properly in a park with a ring that he had designed and had made... got down on one knee and said the standard "will you marry me?" In between me asking him and him asking me, he had gone home to my parents to ask my dad's permission - bless.

We had a very small wedding in March 1998 on his birthday, went on honeymoon to Vegas for two weeks, then had a big reception when we got back on my birthday in April.

I asked my first husband, he needed a bomb up him to do anything.

OH hasn't and prob never will, but that's my fault as I told him when we were first together that I never wanted to get married again ever. Ooops. He says it's a waste of money for one day and he's not going anywhere anyway. He has said we may do it when the boys are bigger and can join in And when we win the lottery

                        Loving everyone else's stories though.

Allotment lady I want one like yours please

I was sitting up in bed, breastfeeding first baby (just out of hospital and sore as hell!) when he said 'What about getting married then'...

It took another 6 years to get around to it and instead of an engagement ring we got a kitchen!

He's not the most romantic of men...

mine was very unromantic......he was on a stag weekend in benidorm (i know) & i got a text at 3am in the morning saying l love you will you marry me......needless to say i turned over and went back to sleep. When he rang next day and asked if i'd got the text i told him to ask me when he was sober....he came home and did it properly and that night i got rushed into hospital with a burst appendix.
We've now been married 7 months

I proposed to OH on a beautiful white sandy beach in Capetown at sunset. Nobody else on the beach waves crashing, her sunglasses pinning her hair out of her face... On 1 knee. She said yes (poor girl didn't know what she was letting herself in for )

EDIt:We actually have a framed puzzle of that beach above our telly.
