Missed last nights 1 but the Straw bale one was awe inspiring !

Ooooooh Mrs. Dobby, I've got loads to do, and I just know I'm not going to do any of it now! (I will go and give the Chooks their corn tho ).

Those houses look lovely - the first one looks like one out of 'Hansel and Gretel' or something. Thanks for the links .

Two things I love about that series are:

          1. They never know how much it has cos.....why not?
          2. Why do the women always get pregnant 1/2 way thru the build.

My dream would be to build an eco house on 4 or 5 acres of land, keep chucks, pigs, goats, grow all our own veg and be self sufficient for water, power and heating! One day perhaps............
So far it is only for holidays, and the house was there already (but needed repairing, upgrading, and bathroom etc. adding) but the "Spanish venture" is self-sufficient for water, power and heating (prunings from the many almond and olive trees) apart from fuel for the chainsaw (might try to get an old 2-person saw to save that) and a small amount of bottled gas (but most cooking we COULD do on the wood fire, with a bit more kit), and we will grow veg, and keep bees and pigeons, when/if we move there long term.
I'm not putting my website link on a public board, but if interested, just ask.

Hilary, I'd love to see the website if you'd like to PM it across?

I know we could probably do it if we moved abroad, but Mr D is not ready to make a move abroad, and I'm not sure that I am either, lol!

The woodcutter's straw house has to rank in my fave 3 GD's!

It's one of only 2 progs OH will watch, that and Gordon Ramsey.

It's great and nce to see one without unlimited funds for a change.

I was just totally blown away with the use of tyres as opposed to putting them in landfil or whatever one does with tyres and got me thinking - why the heck can't we do the same here?

It'll be something to do with 'Building Regs.' Everything is here!! My friend was telling us that straw builds are still difficult to get permission for here. Once the technique/materials are more commonly used elsewhere and standards set, then they'll allow it
