I've met and spoken with a few TV gardeners, and mostly they are a good bunch. Of course there will be exceptions, and of course we're all entitled to an opinion, but it's really not very nice to lay into someone you (presumably) have never met.

Toby has a very tough job to do and he should be given a chance. Imagine how he'll feel if he reads some of the stuff people have been saying on this site. And all for what purpose?

I was under the impression that they had delayed the start of normal programming purely because they had a number of 'specials' ready to be aired, and they thought that they could save money by starting the season off with these? Can't remember where I read that though.

I'd read that there was going to be a 'surprise' in the new series & am quite excited now that it's going to be a fresh start with a new patch, I never really found the Berryfields garden itself very inspiring. I do like Toby (nothing to do with his looks by the way!) & Carol but then I also liked Monty, Alan & Geoff so I'm fairly easy to please. As long as the presenter is chatty, practical, informative & has a lively personality I don't mind.

I read that they had reduced the season because of money issues!!!

My OH reckons he saw Joe Swift at Bergerac Airport when we flew to London mid Feb.....either on holiday...designing a posh person's garden or perhaps there will be a french garden slot on the show? (or OH didnt see him - he told me once that Chris Beardshaw was in the same restaurant as us - in London - and it was someone that looked nothing like CB)
on the eye candy thing.....CB anytime.

Have just logged on and checking out what folk have been saying and it has all got a little heated folks, be kind to one another. Don't matter who you like as your gardening guru, takes all sorts to make the world go round!!

I think Toby Buckland is great, used to see him sometimes on UkTV Good Food Live and he was full of useful tips. Very pleasant and knowledgable man.

I think Gardeners world has lost its sparkle - so perhaps a move to a completely new garden would be beneficial (they could find new presenters too- all except Carol who I think is great) with a Monty clone please.

I dont care if I never see that long border again as long as I live. I am really looking forward to a whole new outlook with the new series.

I have never seen a garden done from scratch on GW so I will find it interesting. As for Toby, he's probably just finding his feet at being a more household name and in demand guest on shows, prob just nerves that made him 'clumsy'. And I doubt whether tv stations let you in with knives, I thought they all had those scanners like at airports?
No need to be so harsh to him, he may be reading this! Poor chap.

You've got me worried about Alys now. If she really does work 'for' Berryfields and doesn't follow the team to their new garden I will be devastated.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Alys is Head Gardener at Berryfields.

Has anyone read her book The Thrifty Gardener?

says on the bbc thing i linked earlier that she will be on

Dale mentioned in an earlier post that berryfields was leased by the beeb and the house there is up for sale aso maybe the lease is out, dale said he got info from beeb forum

Hope that puts your mind at rest Snuffer!
