I'm a member of Denplan. I pay £16 a month, but that covers absolutely everything, check ups, work done and also any dental accidents, including stay in a private hospital.

I'm pretty sure I DON'T get value for money, as I do look after my teeth, but doing this gives me incentive to go every 6 months without fail. I also have X-rays taken every 2 years for them to monitor changes and check for oral tumours and the like.

I've also stuck with it as I'm comfortable with my dentist. My first experience of the practice was after a riding accident where I'd chipped 9 teeth (I was lucky not to break my jaw), so I went in at the deep end. She was very good with that, so passed the 'Scarey Test', lol! I think I have a good set of gnashers - observe.

I was on Denplan for a while, then found an NHS dentist (through NHS Direct, was on the waiting list for two years), previous to that we had excellent cover arranged through our work, but the prices shot up for that, so couldn't recommend them anymore (can't remember their name anyway ).

I have been very lucky with the NHS dentist we have, but from the sounds of it that is a real variable. My younger son, who is really terrified of the dentist, had to have a filling last month, and she was brilliant - booked an extended appointment for him and was really patient and kind, and he was okay in the end.

Hmm, don't think that's really helped though has it? I reckon from prev replies that Tesco might be worth investigating? Good luck
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.

        I'm on Denplan and I pay £33 a month!!!!
        What's going on ???
Our Dentist's surgery announced it was going private and to stay on it had to be Denplan or other insurance so felt I had to sign up.
It would be easier to find a gold nugget on the High Street that finding a NHS dentist in Tunbridge Wells so went along but now feel I've been done.

Are you sure you're not on a family plan? My ex's Mum has a plan which includes their sons, even though they're adults. Aside from that, when I joined, an assessment was made of my teeth, gums and jaw, to judge risk. Apparently crowns, veneers and similar put you quite high on the risk scale, as these are most likely to need re-doing. All I have are fillings (including the accident repairs, where I helpfully knocked out the enamel for her, halving the work!!).

Have you thought of H.S.A.? We each have membership and it covers us not only for teeth but physio, hospital stays etc. What you get back is dependant on what you pay in. We have both just had new specs and our teeth done and the insurance covered it. We do, I must admit, have one of their old plans where dental is included (been with them for many many years) but I believe they now do a separate dental plan. Look them up on the net to see if it suits you.

Perhaps I'm high risk then, got a mouthfull of crowns but it's worth checking up on.
                Thanks for that
