  • Advice on Lancashire Please

    Hello
My daughter is hoping to do a masters degreee in DNA anaylys at Uni of Central Lancashire this year. Having not been up there yet, is there any advice locals can give? What are rental properties like for students etc?
    Grateful for any advice

Hi, my daughter is doing her degree at UCLan in Preston and loves it up there. Preston has a lot of purpose built student accommodation, all with en-suite rooms and at reasonable cost. They have tv and internet connections and all bills are inclusive except for a tv licence. As a parent it is great as all you have to do is transport all their stuff up there and leave them to it, safe in the knowledge that it is clean and new. My other daughter is at another Uni, in an old house, where there is always something going wrong [including damp in her bedroom] and her landlady doesn't want to know. Hope this helps.

Oh thankyou so much. As a mum I do worry and more so as I don't know anything about Lancashire. Not sure if she can get student accomodation as a postgraduate though? What is your daughter studying?

Have a look on UK's number one property website for properties for sale and to rent, click on 'Rent' and then put the Uni postcode in as the search base. Should give you an idea?
DexterDogLancashire is from Preston, she might be able to help too.

            Thanks SarzWix!
Lynda 66 I'm glad to hear facilities are good, no doubt, pubs and shopping will be a very important part of her time there! Is the cost of living any cheaper up there? As we've got to fund it, just wondered

                      Away with yer, Yorkshire man!

Can highly recommend the North. For Post-grad accomm, most unis have purpose built blocks for Post-Grads, separate to the undergrads, but you have to get in quick. It's definitely cheaper up there, too. I went to Lancaster for my first degree and we were always having trips to Preston. Hmmm, wonder if Tokyo Jos is still there!

Preston is full of student accomodation, DONT let her live in there, they are filthy and expensive. Have a look at a house share, plenty of estate agents deal with this. Preston is a vibrant city, full of pubs, clubs, shops and plenty to do.
Chorley is a nice place, more quiet and preston is a 15 min train journey, we also have less crime than Preston.
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

Thanks for all the advice guys! Crime is a concern particularly as she is female and doesn't know the area, thanks for the advice allotmentlady.

OMG! I work at Lancaster Uni (and used to live in Preston....)

I think that sadly, 'Toke's' might have been taken over/changed name etc, which is a shame.... was the highlight of my week!!
