Sadly some people measure their success and popularity by how many friends they have, which is why you get requests from strangers.
Alot of other people only have people they know on their friends list and might add someone they have met online, for example on the grapevine and who they have got to know and/or appreciate virtually.
If I were you I would delete the strangers - too bad if they don't like it - and only have people you have at least conversed with. That way you won't have as many friends but hopefully they'll be ones worth having. That's my policy and it works for me. You can also choose to hide certain types of notifications or certain people's notifications if you wish.
I hope you find it more fun with a shorter friends list

I'm with you on that one.

If you hover your mouse over the offending item, it should bring up a 'hide' button at the top right of it. I have done this both for certain topics/application updates and people who are prolific with rubbish comments or application usage....

One of the things I really like about Faceache is seeing other people's photos. And seeing what people look like in real life. And their families. It's great [if you like that sort of thing, which I do].

It took me ages to "get" facebook, but now it's my main method of communication with friends & family (not pretend friends, like you lot on here).

I can send photos, videos etc to lots of different folk (they are all over the UK, and some in NZ too) with the click of a button ... or just write a short "hello, how you doing" note.
There is live chat too, for if you're online at the same time.

I find it much less intrusive than the phone, and of course it's free, unlike phone calls.

I am ruthless with my Contact list ... it's only for people I actually, like, contact

you are the exception to the rule .... the odd one out .... odd being the operative word .......

there must be 50+ who at one time or another have added me as a friend but never contacted me ..... they get deleted after a while ......

                          Do you ever contact them?

When I was about 12 I saw a poster - 'If you want a friend - be a friend'....it's very true and I've kept it in mind all my life.

I joined FB when it first kicked off but deactivated my account due to loss of interest/limited time etc - but recent events (reunion with sons) has brought me back to it, in fact without it they/me/we may not have found each other.

I'm not keen on all the games, mainly because I have a short attention span - what was I saying, oh yes... I just 'Hide' the bits I don't want to see on my Home page.

I'm loving FB for what it has brought me

And I was getting tremdous help via FB on my problems with getting back into (and staying in) this site - thank you guys

I also love the Status bars, I enjoy seeing that Andrea is 'off for a snooze', that Hayden 'has found his tonuge', that TonyF has more energy than the 'young 'uns', etc etc - it makes me feel closer to the people I like on here.

We may be virtual but many of us here have (and are still) making 'real' friends.

Cor blimey - that was a lot of words, fingers crossed it posts!!

                              OI!

What plays on Faceache stays on Faceache.

It's only a tool - and it's what you make of it - seriously chuffed that you found family Piskie - it's the most wonderful feeling isn't it? I'm still over the moon about my find.....it's all the excitement that tires me out, honest...
