Ah, but this was a Party Line (go on, who else is old enough to remember them?) If we picked up the phone to make a call and old Mrs Jaquest* next door was talking, we had to put it down quick and wait!

    * how come I remember the neighbour's name from nearly 50 years ago but cannot go shopping without a detailed list?

Thanks all, but I've known him for 20 years and he doesn't do enthusiastic, ask Flummery! In his defence, he is not a complete philistine but as far as he's concerned, food is fuel, plain and simple. Which is odd for a chap who makes a point of watching every episode of every series of Masterchef . . .

As for refusing to let him have the home-grown stuff, not going to happen. (a) because it would mean I'd be cooking two lots of veg and (b) he's the one out working his socks off so I can stay at home, and THAT is enough to forgive him many things, including not getting excited about muddy carrots!

Short term memory is definitely the first to go, I'm hopeless when it comes to shopping

Well I do start making a list and as the week goes on I add to it, problem is most weeks I forget where I've put the list!!! So then I have to guess and end up ordering everything I already have and nothing from what I really need!! Memory in general is defo going downhill. Yesterday I went into town and left my cheque card behind, went home to get it and then got to the cash point and forgot my pin number, knew the numbers but put the wrong combination in!! You have to laugh tho or you'd go insane
