We're having an old friend with his new girlfriend over this weekend.
I've just made a HUGE meringue so we'll have pavlova for pud.
Will probs roast a chicken with lemon and garlic, roasted new spuds, fruity curried cous cous, roasted beetroot, lots of nice salady stuff and some warm ciabata.
Made a couple of batches of Limoncello yesterday.
Hope you guys have a lovely meal, Piskie, give that lickle bean a big huggle from me!Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

I've got my mother over on Saturday night, and I'm planning to cook:
Grilled Scallops with Peanut Nahm Jim
or
Deep fried monkfish with chili sauce (depends on the quality of scallops at fishmonger on Saturday)
Beef Rendang
Black sesame ice cream (in ice cream maker) and caramel bananas
She likes a bit of South East Asian food, does my mother. Bit of a wine challenge though...other than gewurtztramminer, a bit clueless.
I bet whatever you do, it'll go down a storm. Have a cracking evening!I don't roll on Shabbos

Pea and pesto soup - very easy and always delicious.
Pea and pesto soup - Times Online
add a chicken stock cube to the water prior to adding the peas, leave the spring onions in and blend them. (you can replace these with a leek if you prefer)
season well, add lemon juice and a dribble of single cream to make it richer and velvety.
then i'd follow up with some kind of homemade cassorole using wonderful pork shoulder steaks in chunks (dead cheap too) , red wine 1/2 a bottle, 2 pts or chicken stock, 4 potatos (sliced and layered on top or as mash) , 2 cans of tomatoes, 2x garlic, 2xonions, 4xcarrots, 1/2 red cabbage. chuck it al in a dish season well and cook in a low (140 C) oven for 3-4 hours. the meat should break with a spoon. (add 100g of chedder cheese and stir if you want more of a goulash flavour) serve with greens.
pudding - carribean apples
dice apples and add 2 handful or raisins. Add 75-150ml of rum/brandy sprinkle with brown sugar and cook in the microwave with a tight fitting lid until the apples have gone soft 5-10mins,
serve with ice cream or cream/creme freche.
Total prep time less than 30 mins. cooking time approx 4hours for cassorole, 20 mins for soup and 15 mins for the pudding.
Dinner is done
