I feel a bit guilty posting this, since it's trivial compared to SarzWiz's woes, but I've had a cr@ppy afternoon dealing with a stupid company and I need to vent

In the wee hours of this morning I woke up with backache - again! - and decided it was time to get a new mattress. I saw a really good offer online and placed my order, then about 9am decided to cancel because they had a no-returns policy on mattresses for hygiene reasons (which my sleep/pain-addled brain hadn't thought about - doh!). Anyway, I get a call back from them this afternoon to say that they hadn't been able to stop it from being shipped from the manufacturer and they would be charging me a cancellation fee of 30% as per their T&C.

I duly check the T&C, and the cancellation fee only applies to goods "made to order" - so how the heck does that apply to a standard double mattress that allegedly shipped within 5 hours??? I try (politely) to explain that they are talking b****cks, and get absolutely no joy. Luckily I paid by credit card, so as advised by the bank I'm going to refuse the delivery and get the bank to follow it up if they persist in this "made to order" nonsense.

I wouldn't mind if it was just me being stupid and careless, but I don't appreciate being blantantly ripped off!!!

So, I would recommend not dealing with this company - their customer service sucks like a Dyson...

P.S. I've ordered a similar (albeit more expensive) product from BackInAction, who offer a 60-day trial and will still only charge me the same money as Furniture ****house even if I don't like the mattress after trying it all that time.

Oh dear Eyren, poor you! I have had that before where they said they couldn't cancel delivery in what seemed a record time after my order. In the end I just refused to accept delivery of it.

Make sure your neighbours know to refuse the delivery if you are out as well.

Victory is mine - mwa-ha-ha-ha! Well, near enough

I just got a very apologetic phone call from the manager - apparently the order has not been shipped yet (it had been put on hold because of the dispute), and I will be getting a refund. I will of course be checking that they don't withhold the bogus cancellation fee, but at least I don't have to refuse the delivery.

"Numfar, do the dance of joy!"
