  • Incredible Weather!

I can't believe it is 1 October and I have been gardening today again in T-shirt and shorts! Blue skies, temp of 17 degrees, light wind and lovely sunshine. It was so warm I couldn't work in the tunnel - kept breaking into a sweat! We sat outside at 5.45 on our new "gravel terrace" having a G&T in superb sunshine.

The cosmos is still flowering, there are still buds on the dwarf sunflowers, I picked peas from the garden tonight. Dahlias and Crysanthemums still got loads of buds and I spied a group of flowers in the strawberry bed. Yet the hips are on the roses and most leafy plants have a sort of "crispy" feel.

This is MOST unusual for this far north. Are you all having unseasonably good weather? or is it just us?

(The ozone hole must have opened up above us again )

We had a lovely day here on the edge of Manchester / Cheshire, though with a few heavy showers (had to sit in the car and have a brew), so managed to spend from 1030am til 7pm on the plot! We too were in short sleeves and sweating hard whilst working, so its not just you Jennie!

We've had an incredibly wild weekend here - thunder & lightning, very gusty winds. It flooded in my lean-to - like a waterfall coming off the side of the house! Makes a nice change to read about the good weather up North

Same here Bibliobeck. Very wild and windy today. Lots of rain on and off. Will have to check lottie tomorrow to ensure all is intact. No flooding that I am aware of though. Glad you are having good weather up north.

Rained here in Dublin this morning and had a terrible day yesterday with very heavy rain and wind. Sunny and warm this afternoon and the flowers still blooming away,

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Sorry you had a bad day south. I know it sounds a bit pompous, but its quite nice to know that we are having better weather than those of you south at this time of the year....... if you know what I mean!

We had a lovely sunny day yesterday...bit windy but sunny. That is until the thunder and lightning started and then we had torrential rain.
Was still going when I left for work this morning and as a result I am now sitting at work decidedly on the damp and bedraggled side of things!

Don't believe our forecasts. I think they have no idea what the weather will be so say its going to be wet and windy with a little bit of sunshine to cover themselves! Unfortunately on the new BBC map we are under the red internet button so can never see what the temp is supposed to be! Not been so great these last couple of days, but very dry and hardly any wind (oh dear that will prompt a comment from NTG! )

I can't trust the BBC weather site to give anywhere near accurate information. Caernarfon is, say 8 miles from Bangor, but the Bangor they seem to allude to is the one in Northern Ireland (the lat. & long. co-ordinates point me across the Irish Sea). I've complained and still nothing.

I'll agree with that. The site forecasting system is aweful for us in Colchester. what I do know is that whatever it says the weather will be like, it's the opposite (so it's reliable in that way! :P)

Sorry - have to keep going on about this. Monday was 17 degrees, wall to wall blue skies and sunshine. Yesterday overcast but still 15 degrees. Last night at 10pm it was 14 degrees! We've never had an October like it. We've already had the warmest September for 70 odd years. I've even got the outside strawberry plants with flowers on.

Rumour here has it that when this weather breaks it is going to be awful!
