Its all about being seen to do something, even if the something on second glance is stupid, we have had a waiting list for a while and one of the Coucillors was stupidly/pointlessly trying to get more people on it by:
    1. Asking the local bee keeping group to site hives at each site.
    2. Writing to all local schools asking if they would like a plot on their nearest site.
    3. Demanding that a "token" disabled access plot be set up.
It was amusing how it turned out.
    1. The beekeepers were so interested that they never turned up to anything they were invited to. I pointed out to the Cllrs colleagues the potential insurance liabilites for the council and the beekepers and the rising incidence of anaphalyptic shock in reaction to bee stings.
    2. Only two schools replied and one wanted a private gate and access for all their pupils unattended at any time. I pointed out to the Cllrs colleagues that my 25 plot site had three schools next to it, no vacancies and 25 people specifically after plots on it, also the risk assessments that schools have to carry out could result in a lot of expense in making sites "school safe".
    3. We had no one with disabilites on the waiting list, so I pointed out to the Cllrs colleagues that they would be wasting, by their own estimate, £5000 on a plot no one wanted, that might be on the wrong side of town and might not "fit" the disablity of the person who applied, also would they rent it to an ablebodied person and then chuck him off when a disabled person applied, or just build it and leave it to rot, so perhaps they should save the money for when they had a need to spend it on a disabled persons plot.
    4. The Cllrs colleagues advised him to spend his time more usefully in combating post office closures.
Chap might be useful longer term though.
I have fed him some seeds about, vehicle access to touch each ten rod plot at some point for manure deliveries and making shite plots a more accessible prospect for newbies, as well as re-opening former sites now closed. Lets see if they germinate.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

The Council are just barking . Well, they usually are so no surprize there.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I am a council employee as a school teacher and i agree with you all councils are run by pedants who spend our money on stupid things and the stuff we really want they don't pay heed to. I don't have an awful lot of respect for alot of them as i have had too many bad experiences of their bad practice.
