Ideas for son and heirs 18th

Hi my beloved one and only is 18 next week, he doesn't like being the centre of attention and isn't a big drinker or one for huge gestures.
What could i do to mark his big day, he wants to do 'something' but isn't sure what that could be.
HELP PLEASE GRAPES!!

If so there are taster days for racing / rallying at various points in the UK including Silverstone

That is a thought, some sort of 'experience day' would appeal to most 18yo males. There are flying ones, assorted car based ones. Our (somewhat older) son enjoyed a tank-driving session last year (no idea what to get him this year).

My youngest was 21 last year and I was faced with much the same dilemma. We solved it by having a family yomp and picnic on Dartmoor (in April) a couple of the more stupid ones even went river swimming - the water was freezing - madness! Then home for a bbq in the evening with the older generation. DD was thrilled, memorable family occasion, but not too much fuss - all outdoors so she could blend into the scenery!

For my sons 21st we had a family golf day- with stupid trophies for winner, hole in one etc- this has turned into a tri-annual event for hubby and sons (with lots of off-shoots for friends, wives, girlfriends etc) which is hotly contested and the trophy (all 5 inches of it) gets passed around and proudly displayed. Course, it does nothing for family harmony -competitiive lot, my boys!

Hot air balloon trip. My cousin did this and thought it was a great way to mark the day.

I'm not one for a fuss either and when I was 18 my parents hosted a bbq for family and a few close friends... obviously this is time of year / weather dependent. Maybe a nice meal in a nice restaurant with a few people who are important to your son.

My oldest didn't think he wanted to mark his 18th at all, but we had a bbq for several of his mates and close family, not really a party. They ended up playing computer games etc, he said afterwards he'd had a great time and was pleased we'd bothered.

I don't envy you - it's difficult if they're not the outgoing type. My best friend (who should have known so much better ) once arranged a strip-o-gram for my birthday. What a complete waste of money. I still don't know to this day what made her do it .

When it was my eldest sons 21st we went out for a family meal and included a few of his friends, the deal in our family is if you want to join you are welcome but everyone has to pay their own way, that way it keeps the cost down. My children have all had money for their 21st paid into an insurance over the years they each had between £1000 and £2000 so that was their present but I also wanted to buy my son a present on the day and all he wanted was an ironing board so thats what he got along with 21 silly presents as cheap as I could find, but upto £5 max. It was great fun trying to find things and he had fun opening them.

Thanks for all those fab ideas guys, his Nanna bought him a lovely wrist watch yesterday which he was thrilled with. We have already bought him a gaming lap top. He said he doesn't want to drive he would rather have a horse!! Knights and all that, perhaps i could arrange some riding lessons for him at the local riding school instead.
I liked the idea of a home bbq for him and his mates, then they could all have a gaming session he would like that i am sure.
