My electric fence has arrived!!!!!!!

question , last year my sweetcorn got savaged by rats , i was thinking the other day could i put a chicken wire fence round them and then connect tht to an electric fence? would this keep the rats out ?

You can, but it won't do any good unless the chicken wire was insulated from the ground and not touching the sweetcorn to hold electricity and you'd need waterproof non conductive posts or sticks for that. i.e. Plastic.
The animal touching the wire completes the circuit from battery to earth, so the juice flows through animal to soil.

Plus rats would just go under it through the insulating gap.
