I really enjoy watching Time Team, any ideas how you can involved in an archaelogical dig? I have found roman coins on my lottie but would love to find something else!

    Any ideas?

The council in Worcester opened up one of their digs for the public to have a go - really amazing and great with the children (who've been 'doing' Romans in school). Unfortunately it's been put on hold because they've run out of funding but maybe you could ask your council whether they have anything similar on the go...

There's an archaeological magazine you could buy- and it's got loads of contacts in the back.

Can't remember what it's called- something like The Archaeologist or The Amateur Archaeologist.
We subscribed for a year about 10 years ago and there was loads of info to sieve through! (No pun intended!!!!!)
      Good Luck!!

Get in touch with Reading University Arch Dept. They have a greenfield site Roman town which they excavate each summer, it is compulsory for the students but I believe they take volenteers as well! You get to stay for a week in a tent though!

There's a search for fieldwork link on the front page, middle(ish) rhs.

There may be local archaeology/history societies local to your area that have digs. Try the library or google.

We go on a dig everytime we clean up the girl child's room, going down through the various strata can bring up some interesting finds!

This is the one we got- it was for our son.

Tony Robinson was/is involved with it- and it explained things clearly!!!!

Himself and I took an archaeology certificate course (2 years) a decade back. The best advice I can give is to find your local archaeological society and join it. They will have digs they are involved in and, most importantly, as a member of the society you will be covered by its insurance when taking part. It's really good fun - but MUCH more exhausting then it looks!

Hi Allotment Lady - have you tried the Chorley Historical and Archaeological Society. they may know of anything in the local area that you may be able to get involved in.

Roman coins? All I have found is five pence three farthings?
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

How cool to find Roman coins on your lottie AL!

One of my minor claims to fame is that Time Team did a whole episode on my childhood home (a farm in the Yorkshire Dales)

Episode 7, Season 13 : The Monks' Manor - Time Team
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
