Put the winter duvet on the bed on Monday, the CH on last night and this morning i gave in and pot away my summer sandels and got back into my winter shoes. Oh how depressing.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Yes but Bramble that means it's time for boots! I love my boots!! Must treat myself to another new pair to celebrate the return of boot season!
(not sure if this belongs here or the peculiarities section now I've read it back )If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

CH went on yesterday night for the first time, sooo depressing but at least we are warm! Only prob is that it doesnt like to fire up on the timer, so you either turn it on manually and its on, or turn it off and its off, so its on for the evening and then off for the night (its too warm with it on overnight), so the night is warm, but waking up in the morning is cold!
Will have to get someone out to it I suppose, but all costs £Blessings

Gas - what's that then ? Mains gas stops about 15 miles south of here - CH is either oil fired, or bio fuelled!Rat

Wood burning stoves are just the bog's dollox !! Fire them up, stick old kettle on top and voila ! Of course, you spend 8 months of the year cutting and splitting logs for the winter - but small price to pay.
I occassionally burn peat in mine with the doors open - just a brilliant smell !
Bibliobeck - how much do you pay for oil ? It's bloody expensive up here !Rat

Casting my mind back Rat - would have been about 35p/litre last fill - was well over £300 for a 1000 litre fill-up anyway
When we first moved here we paid about 24p - that may sound like I'm waxing lyrical but we've only been here 4 years!
We've just been offered a pay monthly deal by one of the firms here, worked out on typical usage and they top you up every time they pass - can't decide whether to take the easy life and tie ourselves in with them or not. They usually work out the cheapest anyway and at least we'd never run out that wayIf you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

We've had the CH on a bit in the last week, but not got the winter duvet on yet though. Today was our first really chilly day and I had to forgo the sandals too Bramble. But don't feel like wearing boots just yet - still got a Spanish tan!
Open fireplaces ???? We blocked ours up last year, well the last remaining one. The house has to be 2 degrees warmer and we can now hear the TV when there is a gale blowing.~

Coo - our last oil fill cost us £750 for 500 gallons, sorry don't work in new money. We thought that was alot. 500 gallons ? 2500 litres ? Sounds like yours is more expensive than ours BB (but never been good at maths!)Last edited by JennieAtkinson; 05-10-2006, 08:25 PM.~

Bibliobeck - we were 36.9p per litre last month - 1000 litres too ! We looked at the pay monthly idea up here but the charges vary so much from company to company and month to month that we didn't wanna tie ourselves to one company.
Jennie - we capped our three upstairs bedrooms fireplaces but kept them open in living room, kitchen and dining room - our biggest problem was jackdaws nesting but the old chinese hats have sorted them out !Rat
