Like Alice,I think it would be a good idea in theory.But then I'd worry that a lot of people would join the forum simply to make a buck or two.Also who would oversee it?The mods have a fair bit on their hands already,would it be fair on them to suddenly expect them to sort out monetary disagreements also?It's one thing swapping seeds & missing out on your swap,but how would it be if talking big(gish) money?
Could be a great idea...but I'm afraid my mind is cynical& fear it could turn nasty!

i got some geranium seeds from here which i could swap or choose to buy if i wanted.
The only problem i could see is it could take away the friendly atmosphere that is generated by the seed swaps that take place. When money is involved then it can spoil a good thing.above the clouds the sun is shining and the sky is blue. if you look hard enough you can just about see it!Comment

Personally I'm not keen on the idea of a buying and selling thing, we already get enough problems with peeps like the guy from Derry who wanted free seeds, think it'll just attract people wanting to make a quick buck / rip people off and they won't be helping policing it themselves. Sounds like more work for the mods and a trigger for 1001 posts which would be better on ebay. We already have the facility to post about wanted / for offer so think it's fine as it is.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

I'm really not interested in buying anything off this website. No offense to anyone, but unless there is a secure purchase method or I'm handing over cash in person and getting the object of my desire directly in my hands, I won't buy. Swapping seeds is enough for me. Plus the fact that everyone is so spread out across the country, that for bigger items that can't easily be posted there will be a very small market of even potential buyers, never mind interested ones.Comment

NO! NO! NO! Having stuff for sale can lead to all sorts of problems & what would be allowed/forbidden to be sold?
This could lead to friction between members.The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.
