  • Bartering

I am working at a cement works at the mo situated near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.

One of the maintenance managers has a big love of gardening and over a coffee chatted a little. I offered him some tomato plants for his greenhouse, plus a chilli and a few sweet peppers. In return he offered me a two year old 21" briggs and stratton petrol mower.

Having no lawn, its going to the lottie to mow between the orchard trees we planted last year.

Bartering, you just cant beat it.

I do agree! I once bartered a hand-painted silk tie (done by me) for 3 bottles of essential oils for my oil burner!

Hi PW, that sounds like a pretty good deal you got there and it all came about by talking GYO, well done

Nice work! Funny, isn't it, one man's treasure/junk and all that. Have you got your restaurants sorted out in Ashbourne? Can recommend a couple of very nice places if not. We're there I think on Sunday for late Mother's Day!

My dad barters all sorts for tiles (the ceramic sort). He imports them so he's swapped them for his kitchen, bathroom suite, wallpaper & paint... Practically everything needed to do his house up in fact!

I've agreed to grow all the veg seedlings for a friend in exchange for 3x 14ft polytunnel hoops this year I'll have to save up for a cover, but I still think it's a bargain - I always grow more than I need anyway

                      Too true Piglet.

I've bartered two complete water butts for two 45 gallon blue plastic barrells, which I'm using to make a retaining wall for my fruit terrace.

BTW Piglet, is the lipsticked chimp lookalike avatar actually a picture of you puckering up to kiss the mower-barterer to seal the deal?

Do all the mods actually look like that, or is there another reason for the paper bags/
