Then uncross them Hilary B, and give them a bit of a rest? Coz Exchange didn't happen today neither!!

I spoke to our Solicitor on the phone this morning, and if she's actually working on MY behalf, she's got to be doing it 'incognito' as far as I'm concerned....
I wish I'd retained the very fabulous solicitor I had in Buckinghamshire now, because this one is doing my head in. Talk about apathy!

I signed 3 weeks ago. My solicitor finally wrote to Trousers and I on 19th March, saying she'd been contacted by my Buyer's solicitor asking what date I have in mind for exchange and completion. So we told her: Exchange immediate, and completion on 6th April, which is when our new home is ready to move into, and with the feedback we had from my Buyer's solicitor, via my solicitor, no-one had a problem with any of that.

My solicitor seems perplexed as to why I'm now spitting breeze blocks at no exchange or definite completion date.
So why bother asking me what dates I want for exchange and completion, and why did her solicitor see no problem with the timings that I gave then? Surely, if there was a problem with timing for funds, it should have been declared sooner rather than later.

The hassle it's causing us is naturally quite significant.
    They're all completely barking.
Thank goodness Trousers, BC and I have our own sanity to fall back on, eh?

Wellie my neighbours are both solicitors and if they manage their office anything like their kids and home its not at all surprising you are feeling as you do.
I frequently want to give them a good shaking, their apathy and non committal attitude to just about every thing would drive a saint to drink .

Not a lot you can do at this stage, just hang in there and it will happen eventually when they are ready, one good thing when they do decide to close everything happens pretty quickly.

Hope its sooner rather than later, lots of fun and happy times at your new place.

Sounds like your solicitor needs a rocket placing somewhere in their nether regions.... and your buyer too!
I'm looking forward to reading your blog from the farm, it looks really lovely Sincerely hoping that you have everything sorted before the end of the week.

Solicitors can be a right PITA, but when you get a good one they are worth their weight unfortunately they are few and far.

Exchange won't happen until the buyer's solicitor has certainty about the date the funds are available, and that is where the problem seems to be. Can't your Estate Agent find out from the buyer or their Finacial Advisor what the hold up is?

Can't you talk to the buyer yourself? It surely isn't going to do any harm to ask them what the problem is? You do NOT have to go through intermediaries. Solicitors like to keep communications through their office, but it doesn't HAVE to be done that way!

              You're all SO right!
"Calm down dear, it's only a commercial" is the state Wellie's currently in... So, I'm definitely a LOT calmer.

My Buyer did give me her phone number way back, and we've had phone conversations before now, but I've wanted to keep things 'proper' for the right reasons through these difficult times, on purpose.

It's strange. When Trousers and I moved into Holly Cottage, with all its' potential, I vowed that I'd never leave, unless they carried me out in a wooden box. Then we were moving to France, and then on top of that, someone offered us The Dream Job, with free accommodation, and doing such beautiful things with a chateau and twelve acres just 'blew our frock up' and then the economy took a nose-dive, and then the chateau owners weren't sure to go ahead or sell, and then her father was diagnosed with a brain tumour and early Parkinsons.
I wasn't going to tell you all that, because it's a bit depressing, but it's the truth, unfortunately. And they're our friends, so we're doubly gutted.

Which is why I'm disappointed but delighted at the same time, if that's allowed.

I've been assured by a copy of a return fax from my Buyer's Solicitor today, that my Buyer is trying to amalgamate her funds from a variety of accounts, which has been the problem, and that the date we've agreed now for completion, should be Top Banana (my words, not hers'!), and that Exchange should indeed happen this Friday, if not the day before.

There's definitely NO DOUBT about one thing in all of this delay?
The Bottle of Bubbles in the fridge is most definitely cold enough to drink now!

And for those of you who have been really so kind and patient.... just come here and give Wellie a BIG HUG?! (see everyone run away children!)

Just wish we lived close enough to visit for a proper hug Wellie. You and Trousers squeeze each other tight and Madmax and I will do the same this end - think it will work?

Definitely a Group Hug HayleyB, Shirl(ey), Madmax, Trousers, Wellie, Cat.
                      Ooh! I enjoyed that!

So. No word from anyone's Solicitor today - which didn't actually surprise me none!

Day before yesterday, I received a Transfer of Deeds thingy-bob from my solicitor to sign, and have witnessed by another person who wasn't a relative. So I got my Client, Mrs. Happy Couple to witness my signature today, with her name, address and occupation. Which she did - in big block capitals: Occupation: SOLICITOR. And then she said to me "And I worked in the City of London, and I think your solicitor is complete Rubbash?" and we both fell on the floor laughing.....

I've been extraordinarily lucky to have her by my side for moral support in these last few traumatic days, and likewise, your very good selves. I really appreciate the support that I've had, thank you. X

With a copy of a fax from my 'solicitor' (?) yesterday that she'd received in response to me stamping my feet in a very big puddle, trying at least to get Exchange, it's maybe looking like Completion for 17th April (14 days from now). Which I'm not proud of, obviously (!) but at least it got a reaction and a potential completion date.

So, hopefully, I won't need to bang my head against a brick wall for TOO much longer.
                      Ow? Trousers kiss it better?
