You (to my mind) are perfectly correct my loverly Wellie - cheques are rarely used these days BUT account transfers via the webley ARE used and used often.
My first thought is 'are 'they' trying to hang on to interest on your dosh as long as possible' (cynic, moi?!) - it will (may) take a few weeks for:
- them to write a cheque
- post it
- it to get lost
- you to chase them
- them to reissue
- you to get 2nd cheque
- you to bank cheque
- bank to clear cheque
...whereas an internet transfer can happen the same day in best case, up to three days in worst case.
Stand ya ground lass and insist on internet transfer - make up a lavish story about you (and T and BC) having to be away for x number of weeks after the move and therefore have no wish for a cheque to be sitting getting nimbled at by mice!
Good luck hun
((hugs))
