You (to my mind) are perfectly correct my loverly Wellie - cheques are rarely used these days BUT account transfers via the webley ARE used and used often.

My first thought is 'are 'they' trying to hang on to interest on your dosh as long as possible' (cynic, moi?!) - it will (may) take a few weeks for:
    - them to write a cheque
    - post it
    - it to get lost
    - you to chase them
    - them to reissue
    - you to get 2nd cheque
    - you to bank cheque
    - bank to clear cheque
...whereas an internet transfer can happen the same day in best case, up to three days in worst case.

Stand ya ground lass and insist on internet transfer - make up a lavish story about you (and T and BC) having to be away for x number of weeks after the move and therefore have no wish for a cheque to be sitting getting nimbled at by mice!

    Good luck hun
    ((hugs))

I was only thinking of you last night Wellie- and had presumed you'd now be in your new home and having a 'relaxing' Easter
Well it just goes to show how wrong ya can be!

No idea I'm afraid about the money, but I think you can transfer the money immediately by a CHAPS - or something like that- but you have to pay about £20 for the convenience.
Maybe they are trying to get out of paying that money????
I'd phone the solicitor and just say this is messing you around and as he's acting on your behalf tell him you've been very helpful so far, but you've had enough!

Good luck- keep us up to date

I don't see why a cheque would need to be sent on. Personally if I had had as much hassle over it as you have had on this one I would be at the solicitor's office to see the payment arrive, and hand over the keys myself.
These days electronic transfer would be more usual anyway.

When doing the Executor bit on Mum's estate the Solicitor moved the cash electronically but I think charged £31 for the doing of.

          So Nicos is right.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

Okay. MOSTLY Today! I have written and posted a letter to my Solicitor, confirming that it is not remotely convenient for me to leave the keys at their office for my Buyer, and that it will not be necessary for me to provide my new address for them to forward the balance of sale cheque to me, given that my instructions involve them to Telegraphically Transfer the monies to my account, as details enclosed. Thank you so much. Your Sincerely..... And I feel mighty better for it too!

I looked up their Letter of Engagement of Services (Trousers's desk files are completely non-existent, and I cannot find a thing children?!) and their charges for a Telegraphic Transfer is £25, which will be worth every penny to get the monies paid into my account at the point of Completion. Tidy.

My Buyer turned up at Holly Cottage gate this morning, which momentarily threatened to ruin my day, thinking about the Exchange Nightmare Stress and related Hassle, but, loading up my 'truck', and my gardening cat having just been sick all over the path, kind of distracted me, so I ended up being polite but standoffish with her instead of downrightrude, which saved me 'getting out of my pram'.

I did say to Trousers the day before yesterday, that the stress of moving is kind of taking its' toll on me emotionally in the last few days now? But I am delighted to report to you that I've completely negated that today, by loading up my 'truck' this morning with every single cardboard box marked KITCHEN, and driving them leisurely over to our new home. I unloaded them, and then unpacked every single one of them into my new farmhouse kitchen dressers and drawers and cupboards.

When I was finished, I filled my cream china wellington vases with spring water out of the kitchen tap, and went out into my new garden and picked some flowers in the rain.

I popped into the Co-Op on the way home, picked up a wicked ready-meal of Salmon en Croute and some tenderstem broccoli (bad girl Wellie!) and pulled up to Holly Cottage gate just in time to have Trousers open it for me, as he'd just got home himself!

The illusion was momentarily and utterly shattered as I stepped out of my 'truck', hearing a heartfelt Meaow from the garage. I'd only gone and shut my cat in there all afternoon? Both Trousers and I had to give her most of our collective Salmon en Croutes (she didn't want broccoli or new potatoes) to make it up to her.

Apart from that, I've had a completely BEAUTIFUL day, and I'm starting to get my Sense of Humour back now?!
            Bless you for Listening. X.

Thanks kirsty b, but I've only just got round to having my hair re-highlighted since last November, and having paid good money for it, I'm leaving it exactly where it is now thank you!

Nope..they are NOT allowed to do that unless agreed otherwise..they could be struck off for keeping someone else's money( interest)!..why risk it????

                        Hi ya Nicos

hope you ok x i only speak from experience of being a conveyancing secretary for over 10 years and know exactly what they are like, they will post the cheque the same day as completion but of course this takes time to get there and clear lol!!! i know all about sols being struck off, one of my former employers "stole" 4 million of client acc money and has served time lol!!!! I hasten to add i had nothing to do with it lol!!! i had left his employment by then!

I know they shouldnt do it, but if the client isnt prepared to pay another TT fee to the banks via themselves then thats why they send a cheque - oh to be a big fat cat solicitor, i know i should have pushed myself harder at school lol! xx

                        • Mmm....

Unfortunately, me too Squashy? So Nicos, whilst I'd love to agree, I'm afraid I can't. Life is sometimes less of a bed of roses than one would like it to be.

So. I've posted my letters, and all I can do is wait to see what this particular week holds.
Everything's looking good at The Funny Farm, and Wellie's Farmhouse Kitchen is 100% 'up and running', except for switching the Rayburn 'on'.....

Ooh! Five days to go, and counting!!

It won't be too long before you can look back on this 'episode' and laugh, I hope

                            • Glutton,
Thank you, but thankfully I've kind of never lost my sense of humour since I met Trousers, and that'd be a compliment to Trousers I'd like to think (she lied through her teeth this evening?) !

Remind me never to move house again, will you?

I can't promise, by the way, to respond to any of anyones' responses from now on.
If I do, it'll be a miracle, but I expect Trousers to 'pull the plug' on Holly Cottage Computer at some point tomorrow.

I can promise you that it has been completely MY pleasure to get to know you, and it would be lovely if we do get to speak to each other again sometime soon.
Really, I mean it.... Thank you for listening. X
                              Lots of Love,
                              Wellie. XXXX
