Perhaps its a man thing: My partner when he makes a hot drink and uses a spoon leaves the dirty spoon on the kitchen worktop even though the sink is about 12 inches a way. If there are any dirty cups/glasses at the end of the evening (before he goes to bed) he puts these on the kitchen worktop which is about 12 inches from the sink but not the same side as the dirty spoons. As I usually go to bed later I then put everything in the sink. Suppose I shouldn't moan too much as he's usually working abroad during the week and only here at weekends.

We have a small shallow blue willow desert bowl that often has towers on it. We use the same silver plate spoon to squeeze the last living drop out of the bag and so the bag and spoon go on top of the tower each time, until the spoon won't balance anymore and then it gets dumped into the kitchen scrap receptacle, about six inches away. That gets taken away before it grows too much mold.
