Would you eat a garden snail??

Just watched an item on the One Show whereby in order to keep her garden snails at a manageable level, the woman concerned cooked them and ate them! Anyone else prepared to go to this extreme to get rid of their garden pests?

I wouldn't eat them, but I know quite a few birds who will

Not a huge fan myself but OH had it on! Apparently she collects them, puts them in a tank and feeds them up and then they go in another container where their starved for a few days to get nasties out of their system and then put in the pot! I think I will stick at my usual methods which do not include eating them!

That's gross. Mr C once referred to garlic mushrooms as having the same sort of texture, god I can't eat them since uhhhhh

What made me laugh was she said they were lean protein, not much fat. Then smothered them in garlic/herb butter.....the main reason anyone eats them. I've eaten them in France and they taste of garlic butter flavoured rubber, bit like artichokes in the sense that it is only eaten as an excuse to pig out on the melted butter otherwise why go to all that trouble. And did you see how long it took to cook the snails...not exactly fillet steak..haha!

Snails are actually a beautiful delicacy and I HAVE heard of people taking their own garden snails - sticking them in a cool box and feeding them spinach for a week.

I have not considered trying it myself however I will still order them when we go out. I'm more likely to puke at the thought of eating garlic mushrooms..... EUCH!!

I'd do it. But I'd be on my own - my bf won't even eat courgettes because he says they are too slimy!

My neighbour in Spain presented me with a large bag of live snails to bring home a couple of years ago. She had collected them especially for me. I told her I wouldn't be allowed to bring them home but now she cooks a big dish of them and brings them round whenever I'm in Spain and I have to eat them. I'm not fond of snails but I am very fond of my neighbour so wouldn't offend her. Never been ill after eating them and they are ordinary garden snails although there are about 6 different varieties which my neighbour named each one. I did joke about how can we eat something she had given a name to but I think something was lost in translation.
