I assume the large plot will be used to make lots of different types of garden that would then appeal to the huge variety and range of gardeners that watch the programme. I only really want to watch the veg specific stuff, so would be quite happy that they used the field as an allotment but then that wouldn't please those who want to grow hollyhocks. So variety has to be the objective. You can't please all the people all the time etc.

I was a bit freaked out by the 'Top Gear' bit at the end too (next week we'll have Carol saying '...and I found this on the internet...').

We did laugh at Alys with her nail, she could have done with a screwdriver and a box of self tappers I reckon.

My MIL wasn't deeply impressed with the huge walls, but I think they were just using it as a device to create different areas and situations - hardly anybody can have a garden that is just a field with no house/building adjoining it, so it made sense to me.

I'm slightly disappointed that they seem to have glossed over all the prep work in the field, but maybe they will refer back to it throughout the series as they develop areas.

Overall I'm happy

Oi, 'norty corner/step' Wayne! That nail was clearly too long, the hammer too small & it was the way Toby was holding it all together & smirking which was putting Alys off!
I enjoyed the programme but as some of the others have said would have liked more on how they created the garden from scratch in the blank field.

After reading these comments, I watched the prog. on i player. I'm a newish gardener - 2nd year, and have never really watched gardening progs until this one, so I have no history and nothing to compare it to. I bet there are a lot of viewers out there just like me.

My verdict? - I loved it, thought it was entertaining, informative and relevant. Maybe a bit dumbed down here and there, but better that than too technical or assuming too much knowledge on the part of the audience.

I didn't mind that the plot, the shed and the greenhouse were all huge compared to mine. If anything I expect TV to be larger than life. If I wanted to see a 6' x 8' greenhouse, I could look out of my kitchen window!

I'll be watching or sky plus-ing every week from now on.

And I never knew you could recycle a cable tie!

They should have shown them clearing beds by spade and fork, also how to weed right (aka roots) instead of a digger removing the grass etc in the background, then skipping forward and showing the ground all clear and dug over! Why not tell newbies what to do with soil improver and manure? I think he said about a hard pan under the ground and it would need sorting, but didn't show him double digging it or anything! If its going to be aimed at newbies, atleast show them the bare basics.

Just my 2 cents, that digger really did pee me off through

Just watched tonights episode...thought it was really good, especially getting the children involved..oh and I have just been on the website to get my free seeds...anyone else do the same..?
