Well I have just watched it on the i-player, and I LOVED IT!
For us newbie gardeners, I don't think it's too dumbed down, and I don't feel patronised - I feel entertained, and I pick up a few tips along the way.
I am really looking forward to seeing how all the brand new gardens develop as time goes on, and also the revamp of the surburban garden. It's exactly the type of stuff that I can relate to, and I expect that there are loads of other newbies and newish gardeners just like me.
I like the friendly banter between the two male presenters (joe and toby?). It comes across as genuine and unforced.
Maybe the more knowledgeable and experienced gardeners just have to accept that the programme has changed direction with this series, and is no longer meant to appeal to the same demographic as previous series.
Just off to the gc now, to see what plug plants I can buy up cheap and grow onLast edited by Oleander; 18-04-2009, 08:47 AM.Never say never!

I think Toby is great, and is probably the first presenter i've liked since Geoff, i do think there is room for another (more in depth) programme, you would have thought the BBC would realise that the gardeners that watched Geoff in the "old days" have become quite skillfull in the " in between" years.
As for Lilly Rose, what a sweetie, Im up for anything that might spark my lazy sprogs interest in gardening!!

I can't coment on the other presenters or the way the programme is edited. I am a total novice and what I have learnt from Carol (on & off screen is amazing) is 100% more than I already knew.
I do get feedback from friends, and must say 95% of them dislike Toby!
I also found a local nursey who sold Trillium, which she was right is expensive £8 for a very small plant, but hopefully it will grow big & strong over the years.Last edited by devon-surfer; 18-04-2009, 09:39 AM.Freelance Photographer

I have to agree with oleander, im still quite a newbie and constantly learning things as i go and im enjoying the new series so much because they are showing some basics and new tricks, i sometimes found the previous GW a bit daunting as i didnt have a clue what they were on about half the time. I do have to agree that a gnomes sanctuary was a bit much and Lily Rose wasnt really for me either but i understand that for folks who have kids ( i dont) it could show how to get the kids involved, overall i loved it.Life isnt about surviving the storm.....But learning to dance in the rain.

The thing that slightly annoyed me was the expensive construction stuff over the last couple of weeks. Do REAL gardeners want to spend hundreds putting windows in an outsize shed? Will a REAL gardener pay hundreds for raised beds? This stuff is for posers!Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I'm afraid I don't like it any more. And I thought the idea of whittling down 6 to 3 for a masterclass thing was really crass. Why not have them all. It was like one of those cheap shows where people get voted off. I'm afraid it's lost a viewer.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I quite liked most of it. It's interesting seeing how the new garden is coming together. I shall make an auricula theatre of my own and I thought the gnomes thing was funny.
However, I thought the thing with Carol choosing the people for her class was rubbish. Like Flum says, why couldn't they all do it? Or why not only invite 3 to begin with? I was half expecting numbers to come up on screen so that we could vote for our favouritesI was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Hmmm I'm sitting on the fence with this. Personally I want more tips on how to do things cheaply...can anyone tell me about the tea bags as I only turned on when she was putting one into a pot but couldn't work out why!
I thought the bit with the child a bit pointless really, especially as they already have something like that on the children's channels. Also propagators are expensive, but then I try to do everything as cheaply as possible (I did have my children outside yesterday sowing seeds).
Sounds like they could do with two programs, one for the beginners who need advice where to start...and one for people who have been gardening for years but want to do more things.
They also need a completely overgrown patch with brambles, bind weed, couch grass and other really annoying weeds and show how to change it into a thriving vegetable patch!Rachel
Trying to tame the mad thing called a garden and getting there I think!
