Unfortunately on-line sites are one of the easiest to 'clone' if that's the right word.

Unfortunately, I had my work Barclaycard cloned by our local filling station. Whilst that was being resolved, I used my personal card for work purchases. Unfortunately that was 'done' too (on-line). Luckily for me (and I'm NOT USUALLY that organised!!!) I was already registered with Barclaycard's Secure Payment Scheme, so all was well.

I hope it all gets sorted out successfully for you.

That's terrible Sarzwix. I'm so sorry for you. And very worried for me. I've never had a problem and didn't think I could have. Just how do those bandits do it ?
Hope you get everything sorted out.

Sorry to hear that Sarzwix, we had a debit card cleared after using it in Lidl. The Police said it had happened a lot. I only go to Lidl if I have cash on me now.

I had a call from my Mobile company just confirming that I wanted the 2 new phones and lines and other stuff poosted to the new address or the other on...a total of £1000. The person ordering knew every thing about my phone account icluding the PIN. Me thinks he worked for the company.

How truely aweful - you've got me worried too.

I've just moved house (last month), had everything redirected and my very lovely ex postie is giving any stray mail (there is always something) to my equally lovely ex neighbours. However......last week some strange bloke nobody had ever seen before knocked on my ex nexts and asked for any mail as he had lived there a year ago - no he had not, I'd lived there for 7 yrs! Odd or what?

Thanks for the timely warning - I will be watching very carefully.

Hope it's not too much of a hassle and sorted soon - Jane

I am sooooooooooooo angry!!!! And although the bank will undoubtedly refund it, it won't be til Monday, which means we have nothing all weekend! Plus it won't be in time for the bill going out on Monday, we'll get charged for bouncing something, and will have to argue to get it back! Aaaaaaagh!!!

And the worst thing is, I have absolutely NO IDEA how my card details have been robbed. I only buy stuff online through reputable companies, or via Paypal, and I haven't even used my card out of the house since November!
Can I ask, did your purchase anything recently from MrFoth***** website, the only reason I ask is because last night I wanted to purchase from the website and decided not to. I have very high security on my PC and it advised me that their website was not secure.

From the sounds of it, I'm lucky it hasn't happened sooner! The banks will try and track down where the compromise was, but i don't know if they ever do.

They are getting very good at this - I was "done" four weeks ago, fortunately my bank (Alliance and Leicester) intercepted the transaction and called me asking "did I want to authorise a payment of £380 for an online gambling site ?" needless to say my answer was no, but it still intailed card being stopped, new card, wait for card, wait for pin number - change all online card details, and we run Mac's only in our house so NOTHING is safe Hope things are sorted quickly and you do not lose out

It's a real begger when this happens! It's happened to me TWICE now in 6 months with credit cards.
I'm pleased to say that in both cases, the company contacted me about a transaction that didn't fit my usual card usage. (£900 for clothing in one case and £700 for Motorcross gear in the other!!)

It's really inconvenient having to wait for new cards to be issued etc, but you wont be out of pocket in the end.

But HOW do they do it????
Both of my frauds happened when I'd bought stuff on line.
So I'd advise installing not only anti-virus stuff on your PC, but a programme that checks or spyware and adware.
Also check that any site you use to buy stuff is secure when you get to the payment part. ( the http bit in the browser window should change to https)
Mind you, this didn't help ME!

Has happened to me too, i was in a gardening centre with my mum and when i went to buy something it refused my card and said i had to call the bank which i did when i got to her house.
My card or at least its cloned version was being used in India!!
I had paid for petrol at a station near my home i don't usually use and that is where it was cloned, it had happened to twenty other people it turned out too!
You are right it takes a lot of sorting is really stressful and makes you distrust folk. I hope you get it all sorted out soon. I can empathise with you completely.

yer that'n'll - rotten rotten stuff Sarz hun, I hope it gets sorted quickly!

It is so scary, we all think it will never happen to us and as we don't have much idea how 'they' are doing it it is blinking hard to protect against it.

I've heard (haven't tried it) that the safest way is to always use a credit (rather than a debit) card, if that gets skimmed it is the CC company's money not yours, hence they will fight hard to get it back.

My card details were used to top up other peoples mobiles and I was not happy.
Got the cash back and placed an order for some paint online and the company went bust the next week so I lost the money again. Your not alone in card crime and I hope it gets sorted for you.

My bank are talking about introducing portable card readers for use with the computer. Not sure how they'll work, but if it means not typing in a card number it might make it harder for the 'key-loggers' to harvest details? I hope so anyway. They already use the Verified by Visa/Mastercard system, but it isn't on every website.
I'm still racking my brains to work out where/when it's happened, but I guess I may never know!

Poor you Sarah, we had it happen to us, luckily they caught the guy as they allowed the cash through to the bank for the pick-up and the police staked it out...
