Signed. They have already tried to destroy homeopathic medicine by not permitting a description of what something will cure unless it has gone through the official 'clinical trials' to prove it works. I assume that this is a further step in that direction. The ruling under discussion may not be quite what the petition creator thinks it is (often people who start petitions misread rulings and object to something that isn't actually there) but I signed it anyway.

        >>>Info<<<

All this is certainly NOT not going to protect the consumer,
it is just going to make some large corporations very rich.

I wish they would stop treating us all as idiots who cannot make up our own minds! If they forced suppliers to give full info, that would be fair enough, but telling us what decisions to make is no use to anyone!

I've got a book called The New Family Herbal at home which was given to my great grandad in 1909. It has a brilliant bit at the front where it claims that Culpeppers Herbal is, although containing much useful stuff, useless in places and anybody using it would be held up as fool, or something. It's very funny.

More seriously, this has been knocking around for a while, the initial intent was to stop people self medicating in a dangerous way (there is SOME risk with almost anything) but has been hijacked somewhat.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Crazy in my opinion!
I doubt Holland & Barret will ever go out of business through it...I admit to not being hugely informed or read up on them, but I'm not convinced that they're the natural health shop they'd perhaps have us believe them to be???
I may have misunderstood some of the bits I read on the links, but one thing said they want to stop labelling GM foodstuff? Are Holland & Barret not linked with Monsanto(or at least a sister of the sister company?)
My (rather cynical,I admit) point of view is that actually it's more a ploy to rid the competition from the smaller more genuinely natural practitioners/shops?

Signed. Don't agree with this at all! As someone has already said, what about freedom of choice! We are all quite capable of making our own decisions and mine is not to help pharmaceutical companies to fill their already bulging wallets

It seems that some of us are in agreement.
The fact that the drugs companies stand to mike a fortune out of this I wonder which Euro MPs/MPs are being given back handers to promote this bill ?

Put me down for James Wong as well (the guy & the book!)
It does seem ridiculous, I can see the need for some sort of regulation of any vitamins & herbs that could be dangerous but I'm pretty sure that the recent changes over strengths & labelling cover this in europe. People will always be able to 'grow their own ' herbs & I can't see this ever becoming policed as if it was illegal like cannabis etc. & it does say low dosage vitamins & supplements will still be available over the counter. Just seems like an excuse for the large drug companies to get a monoply & charge what they want rather than any concern for world health.

Have any of you read the actual official Codex website before jumping on the bandwagon and signing this petition? From the links given above, I see no actual information on what Codex is supposedly banning, just a bunch of supposition. If someone could provide some actual facts, I might be more inclined to sign it.
