4 years as a cadet and another 2 as an instructor and had a great time . Recomend it to any bored kid .
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

My nephew has a slight form of Autism and he goes to air cadets. He use to be the biggest pain in the rump, but this has done him the world of good.

Yup, me and my sis were Sea cadets for years. Had some of the most brilliant times ever. One of best memories is sitting in a fleet tender in a force 10 in the North Sea. Triffic. Sis has been in Navy for last 15 years as a result of cadets.

My mate is 45 and a Cadets Officer. Was a cadet at school and stayed on. Has never been in the army but holds a commission (B list).

And has just been called up for service in Afganistan.....no I don't think he was expecting that.

I was in the Air Training Corps and it was the best thing I ever did! I still miss doing that sort of stuff 17 years later and I still know my Phantoms from my Nimrod (and the firing order of a 4-cylinder inline engine!).

I am currently a commissioned Air Training Corps Officer and I joined at 15 when girls were first allowed, stayed til I joined the RAF and then rejoined when I left the RAF.

The biggest reward for the hours of effort is seeing some of the cadets who join us from difficult backgrounds, thrive and remove themselves from the downward spiral they had been in previously.
also, one thing that never fails to amaze me is that once they are in uniform every cadet I've ever met has supported, and encouraged every other cadet regardless of their background, true equality in action.

I'm proud to give them that opportunity.

And yes if the Wing Warrant Officer Shouts "Sit Down!" I probably would as well!!!! (It's a training thing!!!!! )
