Get real Geo, the Mods aren't answerable to you
, I think the majority of people like the way this Forum is modded and if you don't like it, the solution seems to be in your own hands.

This forum belongs to Grow Your Own Fruit and Veg magazine. They put up the money that runs the servers that this is hosted on.They appoint the moderators to look after the forum and to keep us in line.
Nobody was asked to join up and become members of the forum .
So I deduce from that -
        1- It's GYO's sandpit
2- If I want to play in said sandpit I play by their rules.
3- If I don't like it I go and create my own sandpit or play in somebody else's sandpit.

It's not rocket science is it . Stick to the rules or say bye bye.

And just so you all know - I may not agree with every decision that the Mods make but I will back them up every time because I know how thankless a job it is .They do it so that we all can have a place to come and "talk" about whatever it is we feel we want to talk about but within the rules- so live with it or move on.

And as for the G20 protests - nothing but a bunch of lazy ,holligans , who think they can wreck and destroy the country but have no idea of what they want other than a "good time man" pushed on by an equally self centered press core looking for a cheap headline. Personally I'd issue tasers, batons, plastic bullets and water cannon to the police and tell them to clear the streets as quickly as possible .
So thats both sides of the arguement covered now.

Have avoided posting on this until now as a) as is so often the case, we don't know all the facts and b) I don't see the benefit in us discussing this at length, it's terribly sad when anybody dies, discussing it won't change that or anything else.

Please can people think before posting and unless you have something earth shattering then perhaps it's best if you don't bother.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                    Hi

If this topic had not been picked up by a few newspapers, the mans widow would not have known that his death MIGHT not have been entirerly due to his own health.
And ONE policeman (and others) might go on doing this type of thing again.

Not really but in Northern Ireland I've seen my fair share of events that have been taken over by holligans and turned into riots . You don't have to be to clever to know that if it happened for the last 10 times that it's probably going to happen again. So when I saw things that had the potential to turn nasty I cleared off sharpish . I've dodged plastic bullets ,burning cars , roadside bombs and escaped prisioners and been hijacked once (lorry put across the road and burnt out at the first Dumcree protest).

You learn quick enough to get away from trouble when you see it . If you continue to stay where the trouble is eventually you get hurt - simple.

If people were smashing my property then I would expect the police to deal with it.
But we all have the right to protest but not to riot and smash other people property no matter what our grievances are.

I wasn't going to add fuel to this thread but like most other I want to add my support to the mods... I haven't read the thread in question so make no opinion on what was right or wrong BUT...

There are times when you can see something is about to turn sour. Gut feeling / actual spats.. whatever the reason. Knowing you won't be around you don't always feel you can leave the thread open on the boards while you're not there as things can very quickly turn very sour. Personally as a general grape now, I'd much rather a thread was temporaily locked and re-opened / decided to be composted for good than left to possibly turn toxic

I love the friendliness of this forum and have always found the spats quite upsetting as I feel this is a nice safe haven for many people. Yes people are entitled to opinions etc, but I don't feel it's right at the cost of the communities feelings.

That's very unfair Geo. Pray tell - how many hours do you think each Mods needs to be on for? I mean... should they be giving up work or family time for the Grapevine, or (as was always impressed upon by GYO themselves) they fit it in with their lives, not fit their lives around the boards?

I can tell you know, from personal experience, as a Mod on this forum you do this because you like/love the place, nothing else, and the above could be seen as very hurtful.

Ditto Alison...I've seen the video & yep I was pretty shocked by it,however, there were several hours of protesting that I didn't see...just snippets.I'd prefer to reserve judgement until all the facts are in & don't really see the point of people falling out over something they are so ill informed on.
Oh & MODs....another vote of confidence from here & Cheers from me!

Another vote of confidence for the Mods from me.

There is so much bad news around generally, this is where I come for gardening help, although most of my questions are answered through searching through threads, cooking help (thanks to all who have given 'cake help') and light hearted banter in the chat or chicken section.
I have been here nearly 3 years now and it was the friendliness that drew me in and kept me coming back, long may it continue.
