  • Should I/shouldn't I?

Since we got the cockerels our grandson has been referring to our allotment as 'Nanny's Farm'. This isn't a joke on his part, he's only three and really does think that two cockerels and a few crops equals a farm Trouble is he keeps looking for eggs (no hens yet). So, should I slip a shop-bought egg in the chicken house on Easter morning and risk confusing him forever? Bearing in mind this egg would have been 'laid' by a cockerel complete with date stamp. Or make him wait for the real thing from our soon-to-arrive hens. Normally I'd make him wait, but it IS Easter and he is getting very desperate.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Awwwww, bless him I'd be tempted to pop the egg in too... But maybe farm shop free-range eggs? So there's no date stamp etc. Tell him the Easter bunny brought them because it knows he only has boy chickens, to save later confusion?

      Maybe chocolate egg?
      This way:
-you're not fooling him into "true eggs"
      -he finds an egg

      happy medium?

Oh bliss!!!...it must be lovely to have such a problem!!!!

I'd go over the top..and get some chocolate mini eggs and all the medium sized choccie ones you can find and pop them in a basket with straw...and say the 'boys ' asked the Easter bunny to bring them esp for him!!!
Next year they will promise to bring 'real' ones if he prefers !!!!

Oh...I'd LOVE to see his face!!!!( hmm..does that man I'm ready to be a granny????)

Nice Idea about the easter bunny bringing them .....

I'd say you're ready! (what do your kids think about the idea?)

Personally I wouldn't put one in but would involve him in the real and truthful search for a properly laid egg when you get hens.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I would be inclined to wait for hens and proper eggies. However, I don't see there being any harm in the Easter bunny leaving a brightly foil-wrapped choccy egg for a special easter treat (along with a little explanation that boy hens don't lay eggs)

As a Reception teacher I think you should definately put a choc egg from the Easter bunny in there (kids are only young once!) Then you can say that the real eggs will arrive when the girl chickens come, nothing wrong with that, he is only 3!

definitely go for the choccy egg, but watch the chooks don't eat it first, choccie is poisinous to chooks .... and cockerels lay special choccy eggs for easter, but not real eggs

Ok, going to go with the chocolate idea. I hadn't thought of that. The lady from a nearby plot did give me a couple of freshly laid, non-date-stamped eggs in case I decided to pop one in, but it looks like a choccie egg for Tom and a soft boiled egg-and-soldiers brekkie for me and OH tomorrow. Win win
