Garden Visitor ID help needed please

Hi All was surveying the lands...ok walking around the beds.. and saw this little visitor about 1 ft long....

Would appreciate help identifying please.

I Picked it up and moved to a safer part of the garden away from chooks and cats, so it can live undisturbed.

head simular to a snake as have kept snakes in the past but was fatter and "stubbier than what I'm used to....

I think it's a slow worm.

Definitely a slow worm. How lucky are you! I haven't seen one in years.

Wow thanks all we had one living in our compaost bin last year and was loathe to disturb. they eat slugs!! Yippee!!!!! thanks all

Definitely a slow worm. We get lots, mainly in the dining room, courtesy of the cat! Very glad to hear they eat slugs!

only a slow worm - i'm waiting for the adders......now we've cleared the plot i might not get any but we used to have them all over the garden , mating...............

They're protected they are... came across millions my previous job, many a development was delayed because the slow worms had to be environmentally translocated before work could start on the ground.

yup its a slow worm so congrats. Apparantly they only set up home in really fertile gardens so most gardeners look at them as a really good sign.

I think you should name him. How about George??

When I said 'flat worm' I meant 'slow worm' just call me Nellie Pledge (showing my age now, who remembers her?). I think Sylvia the Slow worm is a good name.

Definitely a slow worm, we get loads round here. The kids are always bringing them home and being told to put them back where they found them!
