  • non green-fingerd family, exept you.

I love growing fruit and veg but I am surronded my people that don't. My mum can't tell a weed from a plant. My dad dosn't have the time but he gets me things to help. my little sister doen't water them. And I give my older sister plants but she just kills them!

My family have always grown stuff but, despite encouragement from an early age could never see the attraction until I had a place of my own - now I can't get enough of it and regularly swap plants / ideas / seeds with my brother. Kayleigh, you're getting a good head start on the likes of me so no doubt won't make anywhere near as many mistakes as me by the time you're my age!

Good for you Kayleigh! my OH isn't interested at all - but he is interested in eating what I grow! I really want to get an allotment but he just keeps saying it would be too much for me! mmm, we'll see! once you get your plot of land dug over and no weeds, it really doesnt take much to keepon top of your veg - I just need to get him to believe me! My OH isn't keen on me getting a lottie either (he thinks I'm too lazy) so decided I'd just go ahead anyway - fine in theory until I discovered that they're almost impossible to get hold of anyway, either that or OH has bribed the council to tell me they're all taken.

I hope my OH doesnt read that Alison! he'll do the same! he doesn't know I've written to one allotment secretary - fingers crossed! I just need him for his muscle power at the beginning to get things sorted - then I do the rest! DDL

Kayleigh, just keep in there, as Dexter says they will love to eat your veg!

My OH sounds so similar to a lot of yours! Not particularly interested in the growing process (occasionally helps with the harvesting part: you know, the rewarding bit!) but enjoys noshing the produce (cooked by me!).
To give him his due, he does say from time to time how much he appreciates me doing the gardening so we can have fresh produce, so it doesn't go unnoticed.
He too does the lawns and hedges, whereas I 'don't do lawns' and only do the hedges if they start to drive me mad and he's too busy with work to get them done.

Are you all sure we haven't all got the same highly bigamous (?) OH? Mine claims to be at football at the moment and the only garden stuff I can get him to do is grass, harvesting and DIY / heavy stuff!

Bless 'em! to be fair, I'm happy for his help with the really heavy stuff (ie the original digging out) but then am quite happy to do the rest myself. There are a few jobs I've got planned for my OH over winter, though he doesn't know yet! Think it will be a case of, oh, this would be a really good idea and help to me......etc. etc. make him think its his idea and presto! DDL

Have just read all the replies to this thread and feel I should stick up for us guys - my OH (definitely female) wouldn't know a tomato from a cucumber unless I grew it and picked it for her - she has absolutely no interest in the garden at all - other then to ask me to get her fresh veg or herbs, or to pick some flowers for the house. My 5 year old can name more plants than she can.
And my OH doesn't do the lawn or the digging, so c'mon ladies - I know it's in your genes, but stop moaning !!!
