A proud mum!

I had to share this with you all. My daughter is at Uni at the moment doing Forensics. She has had a tough time over the past few years and had to do the first year again due to depression....a long story but related to ex-husband and emotional abuse. Consequently she has very little confidence. Anyway she applied for a masters degree in DNA profiling and has been conditionally accepted but better than that, the head of department told her they had had 500 applicants and only 11 places were offered! I am so proud of her, 4 years ago I didn't even think she would manage to stay away from home. Even if she doesn't manage the grade, I think the offer in itself is a huge achievement for her!

I'm trying to do my PGCE and am up against a Uni dept that has turned me down because I don't have GCSE English, even though I have A Level and a Degree in English....and they give A Level as an option when applying....after speaking to her and emailing across my degree unit info I am being 'reconsidered'.

It's not easy at the best of times, but up against so many applicants she must be WONDERFUL to get through.

Thanks Zazen, we've got two people at our school doing PGCE, its pretty tough going especially as they're teaching as well inbetween! Had a similar problem to you a few years back. Wanted to do a nursing degree but didn't have the GCSE maths but was already doing A levels in Economics and Psychology (quite a bit of maths involved to say the least) and had already taken a maths entry test, which I passed. They wouldn't have it, I had to do my maths GCSE along with a load of 16 year olds, that was interesting!

Big congrats to your daughter, I know how proud I am of my kids, so for something as exceptional as that to happen, you must be prouder than a proud thing.

Go back to the main grapvine section that lists all the forums. Click on the one that most suits your question type e.g. veg, flowers etc. Click on that forum and then in the top left hand corner, it should say post new thread, click on that and your away!

SR, I too have been in a similar marriage to your daughter and now suffer with the same as a result of that previous marriage. I am in the early stages though (after 4 years lol) and havent got further than doing an access course due to lack of confidence and depression. I am hoping getting a new interest in GYO will give me some back though and maybe help me to go to uni (i was offered a place but too scared to take it up!). So I can completely understand her, and would like to send my personal upmost respect and congratulations to her to have come so far! Its not easy and she has done remarkably well! No wonder you are so proud! xxx
