The thorn used to pluck the skin to cut is worse than the incision apparantly. I wouldn't know personally though as I've yet to have it done.

I've got a fair few Blackthorn tips embedded in various fingers - nothing as impressive as that though!

Got a few of those working at Calke Abbey last year.

I moved about 2500 concrete roof tiles today, so while I don't have any blackthorn tips in my fingers, I've now got no fingerprints either.!

I always thought the claddagh was an Irish symbol.
              Correct me if i'm wrong.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

The only ones i have on show all the time are the ones on my feet which is a Poppy flower on my right foot and a Arum Lilly on my Left, with the childrens date of birth. CLADDAGH is irish symbol ring two hands clasping a heart it is given as a friendship ring or wedding ring the design and custom of the the ring came from the fishing village of claddagh just outside the old walls of the city of galway
the ring was first produced in the seventeenth century in the reign of queen mary the second although elements of the the design are much older
                  Irish: fáinne Chladach
but it would still make a lovelly tattoo but should be tattoed on left hand side facing towards the body if this is possible coz that means that the person wearing wearing it is married this is how it is worn on hands lol dont know if same can be done with tatoo

as for having them where they cant be seen have them where they can be seen and covered when needed
i have two on chest two on left arm and daughters name on on right arm which was my first one when i was 22 and is just indian ink name the others are more decorative

                    Hi

                    An eagle, on your back.

There is a local girl with one of these, I think its great, when she wears a vest you can just see the tips of its wings, it covers most of her back.

dont know what it is about eagles to me the just tacky not the birds themselves coz they are the most majestic bird of prey going nothing beats the site of the golden eagle in flight on the hunt
just as a tatoo is tacky to me that is
if was gonna have something on back with wings it would be angels and you could make them quite celtic in design as well
dont take for granted that you hold dear

There is just one snag to tattoos.... the way they age.
Colours seem to fade (so I am told), and when you get wrinkly (as we all do eventually).... have you ever looked at a drawing after it got crumpled?
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

                          I'm crumpled enough already.

What about a celtic tree of life design? Always liked those. Alternatively, I had a friend with a really nice celtic knotwork band around her ankle, it looked pretty cool.

No real ideas on what to have but just pick something which you isn't too "of the moment" or you'll get fed up with it. OH keeps trying to persuade me to have one done, probably a flower or something at the bottom of my back, but I'm too chicken that I'll regret it so haven't plucked up the courage yet. Am thinking that I might go for it for my 40th next year but not sure yet!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                                I say go for it.

I've liked the idea of having a tattoo for the last 15 years or so, but never really had anything I wanted to "mark" if you get my meaning. Now that Hayden's here though I like the idea of marking his being on me - my decision, my reasons.

I've had a trawl through this website:

Tattoo Designs – Largest tattoo gallery online. Ideas and art pictures for Tribal, Celtic, butterfly, cross, fairy, flower, lower back, dragon, sun, star, armband tattoos & more.

There's hundreds of ones I don't like - and I'm not keen on "fashion" tattoos, or cartoons, but each to their own. I'm sure there are hundreds of people wouldn't like my ideas of a good tattoo. It's what makes this place we call home so great.

Anyhoo - as soon as I've settled on a design I'll be doing some research on tattoo artists.

he Ethiopian tattoo looks like a braille tattoo Mikey!

Good luck finding something you like MrsC.
