Yeah I'm a bit better, didn't sleep well last night, listening out for them I guess, just worried about Christmas now in case they fancy goose or duck.

Hi Tensing, sorry about the problems, hope you are all o.k. now. You should get a few more geese, the local garden centre near me has a flock of 'guard geese' to scare off intruders but I'm not sure if you'd get much sleep!

Got attacked by a gander when i was young on the farm, just remember being in the corner of a barn and it had me by the neck, my dad walked round the corner and rescued me fortunately and soon after it went missing, what a mystery....

Personally I don't think fireworks should be available to the public. Maybe that makes me a party pooper, and don't get me wrong, I like to see them. But they're so outrageously expensive, the animals hate them and there are people out there who abuse the right to buy them by letting them off whenever they feel like it, and worse still, by using them to inflict suffering on to animals. As I say, just my opinion!

Hope you had a more restful night last night Caroline!

I think it must be an age thing Waffler, when I was little I used to love fireworks but they were much tamer then & harder to get hold of, I used to pester my dad to buy a tiny box of 'Standard' fireworks. Now everything seems more like a mortar bomb than a firework & kids of all ages wander around the streets letting them off. I don't mind the organised firework displays once or twice a year but like you & Caroline get sick of the months of fireworks going off from October to New Year, making me jump never mind the poor animals! Our dog used to spend Oct/Nov. behind the sofa & I'm always worried about the poor animals & birds which are outside & don't know what's happening. Hope all your birds have settled down again now Caroline.

The problem round here is Fireworks are cheap and the rules about selling to kids seem to get ignored, that and the adults are also idiots with them. I have always thought Fireworks should only be available to those qualified and licensed to use them, ie display organisers.

I always disliked fireworks but would watch them then one year one of our neighbours had a 40th birthday and was bouncing the fireworks of our roof no problem except we have a thatched roof we went round twice and pointed out the problem in the end we called the police but why let the general public buy them when there are organised displays everybody says about the animals but what about the expence to the NHS and when all said fireworks are mini bombs

Ooh! Someone else with a thatched roof! Last bonfire night (our first year in the house) we made sure we stayed in 'just in case'! Another reason we will not be hosting any bonfire/firework parties at our house!

Dexter the dog is terrified of fireworks/loud bangs etc. Needless to say we'll be staying in over the next couple of weeks - curtains drawn and TV on loud! to try to prevent him hearing the noise. Poor lad! Did tried some tablets from the vets but once he gets upset it too late to give him a tablet and Im not giving them to him "just in case". DDL

Bella too is scared of fireworks (and thunder too), the other night was ridiculous, lots of fireworks going off and Bella terrified shaking all over and hiding in her bed! Took us a couple of hours of hugs to get her to calm down and relax! Ban them apart from organised displays!
