Short for Web Log, I believe. It's where you write all the interesting facts about yourself/family/hobby/whatever for other people to read. Haven't done one myself, because I'm not interesting enough!

a blog - yes, short for weblog - is kind of like an online diary. You can write whatever you like. Some people choose to write on one specific subject, for example, politics, news, cookery. Some write about their profession, like the police, lawyers, nurses, teachers, and do so as anonymously as they can, often describing things that they think are terrible about their profession, that they can't really write about with their names on (cos they'd get fired). Others still use it as a sort of diary - for gardeners, what they sowed, when, observations about their garden. Some write about their lives in general. Still others write about very intimate details of their lives with their partners. There's a lot of rubbish blogs out there, but there's also a lot of really really good ones: people who have put their heart and soul into their work, or who have really thought about what they write. For example, there's an "inspector gadget" blog that writes about his experience of the police force, there's a waiter blog, a guy who used to work in various restaurants in NYC. there are some really really good gardening blogs, from people who grow their own veg on allotments, through to people who know a LOT about all kinds of gardening, through to those who grow for self sustanance or simple living reasons.

in many ways, its just like a library - a lot of rubbish books, and some really really good ones. I think its a little unfair to dismiss them - Give blogs a go - if you're interested in growing your own, then you might like to try My Tiny Plot, bifurcated carrots, and Fluffius Muppetus.

Stonehead writes a really good blog on farming and living on a working croft, The Cottage Smallholder writes about gardening, cooking and eating well, and Down to Earth is all about simple living.

For Allotments, there's the Allotment Lady, Matron's blog and lilymarlene, just to give you a taste of what's out there.

If you'd like links for some of the other subjects i mentioned, let me know, and i'll see if i can help.

        have fun reading!

Cheery - many of the members on here have a blog. Click under their names to access the blog.

Otherwise - go to google and type in "gardening blogs"

            happy reading

cheery - if you like a particular blog, then often, down the side of the blog, you'll see links to other blogs that they like. That's a good way to have a look around the blogosphere, to find blogs that you like. I'd also chime in with what Two Sheds said about people here who write blogs...

Haven't done one myself, but a friend of mine started one to document her progress in therapy - she has Borderline Personality Disorder. I think it's helped her a lot and in her case, it SHOULD be published. It helps me understand her so much more.
